I've never really had a telephoto lens before so I sprung for a Canon EF 70-200 F/2.8L. I have a trip to Belize coming up in June and a few other things so I think this lens rounds out my kit pretty well. I didn't really buy this lens for aquarium stuff as my 17-55 F/2.8 IS and Sigma 150 F/2.8 macro cover everything I need but here is a quick picture as a test. This lens is known for being tack sharp @ F/2.8 and I'm quite pleased so far. I can't wait to see what it will do outdoors with some light.

I have the 70-200 f/2.8 IS and have to say it is one of my favorite lenses. I can't really choose between it and the 24-70 f/2.8 but everything else falls in line behind them. Image quality is impeccable, auto focus is buttery smooth, lightning fast, and marksman accurate. The colors from the lens look great...I just can't say enough good things about the 70-200 series.

Thanks guys. I debated this lens between the Sigma 70-200 F/2.8 but decided to just spring for the Canon and not worry about it. I can't wait to give this a good run in Belize, Banff, and the Washington Coast trips that I have planned. I've missed out on plenty of good wildlife shots in the past because a lack of good telephoto. I have a TC which I hear this takes quite well. I'm not really sure if I needed the F/2.8 over the F/4 but figured why the heck not :) It is a beast of a lens though and certainly not light.

I have the f2.8 and the the f4. I bought the 2.8 for Churchill (polar bears). I just didn't want to take the chance on missing shots because of low light (funny thing is we had decent light and I was shooting at f8 most of the time - lol). Anyway, depending on what body you have the 2.8 enables some extra focusing sensors than the f4 lenses. I still take the f4 when I am doing long trips and weight counts. The f28 is a beast, but it takes some amazing shots. With a Tele you also have a nice 400+mm lens at f4 where the quality it still amazing.

btw - I love your stuff. Some of my fav images. Banff and WA are Amazing. Been to both a few times and still love looking back at my images. Looking forward to seeing your captures.
