working on pairing up

I have two Marron clowns with yellow strips. And I think they are both females . How do I pair them up? just put them in the same tank at the same time. or one at a time. I have a HUGE red carpet
for them. what else do I need to make this work. They are my all time FAV

you should read the Pairing FAQ. There is a thread at the top of this forum that has all of the FAQs in it, look for the pairing FAQ there.

Maroons are notoriously difficult to pair up and you can never pair up female clowns, they will kill each other if they are really female.

Why do you believe them to be female.

the fins are darker and was told they are both females, And One might turn male. I have them in the same tank right now One headed right for the red carpet . the other one in in the other corner If it comes out she puts it right back in and heads back to the carpet

if they are both larger and the same size.. you might have problems. find out where they came from perhaps (someones tank etc)
are they fighting non stop? do you see one submitting at all, or vibrating when attacked?
(1 submitting would be good)

at this point being they are in one tank already.. personally... Id let it play out. if they werent already together previously.. expect torn fins and fighting... and let it be... unless one isa about to die.. or it gets really bad.

In that case.. id remove the weaker one (my opnion.. some would keep the beaten up one... but the stronger one is most likely female...)
anyway.. id remove one. and then keep your eyes peeled for a super tiny baby maroon. Ive heard alot of people trying to order juvi's and getting way to big of a fish.. just wait.. and one should come along.

therea a way this go's
a juvi, or baby is a non sexed fish.
if theres already a male and a female present.. it will stay non sexed.
when the male dies, or there is no male present.. juvi becomes male.
a male can become a female.. (if there is no other female present, and its the most dominate one)
but theres no reversale. once a female, theres no turning back.

and if you have 1 solitare clown.. it will turn male.. then female.. and stay female

whitch is why you have to find a juvi that can turn male.. then the mating begins lol

So if it has not turned yet I still have a chance? the one that is in the corner is submitting. Has no desire to fight at all. And as long as it stays in its own corner no problem. The second it get to the other side of the tank the 2 one goes nuts. and puts the other one back on its side of the tank. then swims away. So far no fin problems.

A female clownfish can never turn into a male, sorry. Even if they're not both females, you're going to have a tough time with maroons of approximately the same size. Maroons generally won't submit unless they're faced with overwhelming odds. Generally, you want to put them with another maroon that's about twice the size. Of course, like everything else in this hobby, rules are often broken. I'm afraid the first one can't be, though. If they are in fact both female, they will never mate, though I suppose it's possible they could learn to live in the same tank without tearing each other apart.

Well day 2 so far so good the one in the carpet has not hurt the other ones fins (thank god) every now and then she will chase it back to its corner (and it goes) I am keeping a very close eye on them

I think you can breathe now. You are sort at a crossroads now. If both fish are very close to each other in size then there won't be any more aggression for a little while as they grow. Once they get a little larger you can expect a lot more aggression. The other option is that the one in the corner has submitted and the larger will continue growing and will eventually become a female. I suspect it is the second because the behavior you've described suggests that there is clearly a dominant fish.

I would now start feeding them very aggressively so that she will continue to grow rapidly, this will reinforce her dominance and reduce the likelyhood of a mutiny before they mature. Don't worry too much about a little fin nipping. It is quite likely that as he tries to get closer to the dominant fish that she will nip at him a little bit. If there is any danger it will show up as much more than a little bit of fin nipping. Watch for body damage and trouble breathing or gaping at the top of the water.
