Working with Acrylic

I bought a really nice, big sump over the weekend for a few dollars. Its in great shape however I would like to add a couple of supports across the top to reinforce it just incase it would ever fill to the top. I've found big sheets of acrylic at Lowes, but I don't really need that much. Can smaller quantities be found? What should I use to attach the braces to the sump? Thx.

you should be able to get smaller than whole sheets at home depot.i think they sell 2'x4' sizes.if not pm me and i can get you some(i work for plastics company).try to find some weld-on glue maybe like #16(its like model glue in thickness).what size length and width and thickness you need?

If your just wanting some scraps

If your just wanting some scraps

Farco Plastics in Clearwater has a scrap bin in front store, that has all different sizes and thicknesses.

I don't know what the prices where.
Also there only open 8-5 M-F

you could always cut the acrylic to a smaller size, also, make sure you use weld on or some approved acrylic adhesive, cause i built a sump and it was a pretty big disaster. Also you can actually bend acrylic with a small butane torch (you can get one for 20 bucks at walmart) and shape the acrylic into a [ shape for the brace.

What Size?

What Size?

I have some scraps that may work for you, what size are you looking for?

I'm need a strip about 15" long and 2" wide. I'd also like to get a piece that is around 15" long and 9" wide to make a filter sock holder. If you've got something like that available please pm me. I see you are another ASM owner, love those skimmers. Thx.

Where is the best place to find weld-on? I'm assuming as listed above that number 16 would be the best for a sump application?

Hi Chad,
I have some strips for you and I also live in Largo - off Highland Ave not far from East Bay Drive. It's yours and if you live close I can even drop it off :D Just let me know.
