Works better than Cheato!!

So for first the 3 years of my tank life I had chaeto in my fudge. It grew great and did its job. Then it started dying. I replaced it 3 times, it died. I adjusted lights, went to LEDs, increased circulation, etc, and nothing. Dead.
Then, what did I replaced my chaeto with? A DUST BRUSH. It's one of those blue, 10 inch spherical ones from Home Depot, that comes with a long stick. It has long, dense needles with lots of surfaces for algae to grow on. I placed it in the fudge container (minus the stick), set lights to 24/7 and let it do its thing.
Two years later i added another brush to fill the fudge and double the effectiveness.
What's awesome is that when I rinse them I can do it vigorously, (versus being gentle with chaeto), and every 3 months I soak them in bleach, along with my filter socks, for them to have a fresh start.
I advocate it to anyone, instead of growing and harvesting chaeto. Awesome!

And what colour is the brush? Does it need to be seeded or just let light and nutrients do its job?

Sounds like a very basic DIY algae scrubber. Makes sense that the concept would work to be honest.

I have an image of a toilet brush in my head now.
