I have one that was attached to a rock that I bought a mushroom coral on. The lfs just left it on and didn't say a word to me. I also bought a royal gramma that he proceeded to drop on the floor and pretend like it didn't happen. In hindsight I should have said something, but I'm not going back.
That being said, My tank is new, the snail hasn't been an issue and I haven't noticed anymore of them. For now I'm letting it be, I see the strand every once in a while but have nothing close for it to bother. When I do get something, it will most likely die a horrible kalk death.
