Worried about tank breaking

Well long story short I have had my 38 gallon tank for 10 years now, 5 as a fresh and 5 as a reef tank. And for some reason probably my OCD I now fear its going to explode

Everything seems good on it accept the rim around the top is kind of loos on the front, like it bends easily if I put my fingernail under it, but it has been like that for at least the 5 years I have had it setup as a reef tank. The tank is also a bit uneven. The water on the left side is about a half inch higher on the left side (I set this tank up before I new that you need to level your tanks) I do though keep the water an inch or so under the rim to prevent fish from jumping so easily. But again its been setup for 5 years without issue. So I guess my question is do tanks ever just explode out of nowhere?

The real problem is my lights have been running for longer then 6 months so im due to buy new bulbs for a $100 so im trying to decide to stick with the 38 or go something new like a biocube.

Glass tanks wont explode if they are unlevel on one entire side lol.

They need to be unlevel on 2 oposite corners for that to happen.. for example if its just one corner thats unlevel then yea that means the tank is twisting and thats bad. But if its the entire left side that means the tank is still in plane its just leaning to one side.

Does this make sense ?

Just go to lowes or home depot and get some plastic shims. Not the wooden ones. They sell plalstic ones and shim the side thats low ( the whole side. And get yourself a level they are like 10$ and just make sure the tsnk is level front to back and left to right.

You dont want it to be uneven on two oposite corners( front right) and rear left) Thats the big no no.

Paranoia will destroy you

Anytime you keep water in a fish tank there is a chance its going to fail
Anytime you get into a car there is a chance you are gong to get killed

38 gallon tank - don't lose sleep over it. Good your don't have a 180 like mine - 6 times the paranoia. I think about it once in awhile but then just sit back, relax and enjoy the serenity.

After hearing about the damage a 150 gallon tank does when a seam let lose overnight I have that fear as well. An unlevel tank puts pressure on the one side even if it is not twisted. No guarantee it will break a seam though, but certainly may increase the odds over those nice and level.

True.... but its always good to make sure the tank isnt twisting.. if its leaning to one side its ok... but twisting is bad.

Its like people who say everything causes csncer so that means its ok to not worry sbout it ? No.... you can avoid certain things to lower your chances.... Saying everything causes it so its ok is stupid.

I have had a tank that was perfectly fine for years then one day it just let go. It’s just something that can happen even if the tank is perfectly level

How big was it and how much damage? Any insurance coverage?
