Worried. Should I Purchase from TBS?

Hi,
I am not calling you a liar, dont take it that way. I just thought you might be a little fired up. But if your rock locks nothing like mine than thats another story...

watchdr,

I am finding it very hard to believe your rants in these threads. To begin with, like the others, Richard has always responded to my questions with light speed and is very curteous. Secondly, you are the ONLY person in countless threads here that has claimed to have such issues with TBS and Richard on so many fronts.

If you were unhappy with your 2nd shipment you should've contacted TBS privately and I'm quite sure they would've done whatever was necessary to make things right, rather than your constant flaming and complaining here.

Howard,

Since richard ignored my questions before why would I expect him to do anything about the lousy rock he sent?

To believe or not is your choice and since you ignore facts you choose not to believe.

I am not ranting I am letting other know of the problems I have had. I have every right to do so even if you don't like it. And that is your problem not mine.

ppht,

Ok, my mistake. I was able to get one picture last night of one of the rocks and when I figure out how to post it on here I'll get on.

It really is bare.

ppht,

Hope this works. I had to resize it smaller for the file size. In this picture it actually looks like it has a lot of coraline algea on it. In real life however it is almost white with a very slight pink tint to it. I have never taken pictures of anything in my tank before so I probably did not have the settings on my camera right. But even though it looks pink there is nothing on it. Wouldn't you agree?

This rock was the biggest he sent and was from the second shipment.

Speaking from experience, even jumping to my own false conclusions and not giving Richard a fair shake at first, I think you would be much better off dealing directly with him rather than continuing to post public comments that appear to be bordering on libel.

I attempted to order LR from Richard early this year and got more than a little upset when he did not respond to me in what I considered to be a timely manner. Like you, I decided to air my 'concerns' in public forums. The fact that Richard might have been on the water (and he was) did not enter my mind. Richard took my negative posts in stride and still dealt with me in a professional and very courteous manner. He quickly turned a dissatisfied customer into a supporter. There are a number of posts here where he has donated LR to a hurricane victim or where he replaced LR that arrived sour due to mistakes made by the airlines, something that is beyond his control. I have little reason to believe that he would not be willing to work with you if you would give him a chance.

I recommend you drop the negative posts, swallow your pride and contact Richard directly to work things out. Sure, you may disagree with this recommendation and that is your right. At the very least, I strongly suggest you choose your wording carefully in future posts as I do believe you have crossed the legal line and may be setting yourself up for a hefty lawsuit should Richard ever feel so inclined.

ybenormal,

I am not worried about a lawsuit because your claims of libel do not hold water.

I am stating facts that can be proven and that is in no way libel.

I will contact Richard but based on past responses I doubt anything will come of it.

I will post the results of this so everyone can know.

BTW, it is not pride to be upset. There is nothing prideful about this. A question was asked and I posted the truth about my experience. There is no reason for everyone to claim I am wrong in stating my truthful experience.

This constant denial by you and others that this could not have happened and making me out to be the bad guy here is not right.

If he had answered my questions that would not be an issue. But the fact that he responded to my emails and ignored my questions is a fact.

I have all the emails both from me and from him. As I stated before I can post all of them here but should not have to do so in order to prove I am telling the truth.

Stating facts is not libel no matter what you think. I have all the proof of it and you have nothing but your feelings.

I have not stated whether I think your claims are valid or not. I do think you've made your point though and should now take it private.

Hopefully you will contact Richard and the two of you will be able to work something out.

I thought that picture of that piece of rock you posted was GREAT--really nice rock.

I doubt Richard ignored your emails--you probably sent them to the wrong address and he never received them.

If I was Richard--I'd surely sue you for trying to ruin his business and libel.

You are the only one who ever complained about his rock--I guess all the rest of us hundreds of happy customers are all wrong about his rock and him as a person. I met him personally 2X--the guy is as nice as they get--he is passionate about his work and deserves musch better than what you have publically spewed here.

What is Libel?

Libel is a legal claim for false statements of fact about a person that are printed, broadcast, spoken or otherwise communicated to others. Libel generally refers to statements or visual depictions in written or other permanent form.

I think everything stated above is all over every one of your posts here, bud.

You guys haven't a clue. You just stated that libel is a FALSE statement. My statements are not false. DUH.

I never slammed Richard. It sure would help if you guys could read.

Enough about the fact you guys can't read and don't understand what you are saying.

I did contact Richard and he offered to replace the rock I wasn't happy with.

Done deal. There is no reason for continuing this here and I won't respond to any more FALSE accusations by any of you claiming libel.

Richard is smart enough obviously to know what is libel and what is not. He is also smart enough to make a dissatisfied customer into a satisfied one. Which does NOT ruin his business.

Grow up guys. If you don't allow anyone to tell the truth no matter if you agree with it or not then this forum is a joke and all those that participate are as well.

This forum is for telling the truth which I have. Just because you don't like the truth doesn't make it anything other than the truth.

Grow up and realize everything is not how you think it is. That there are things that don't go the way other would have hoped and there is freedom in this country to voice those things.

Richard has turned this around and made us satisfied.

End of story.

Richard is an upright person. He did answer all my latest questions very quickly.

Have a good day everyone and especially Richard.

Very interesting and revealing statement of your intentions in posting here from the beginning.....

An admission of guilt--yes, interesting.

i have had my rock for about a month and a half. if the original poster of this thread is still reading, i would highly recommend the tbs rock. you will ultimately get a bunch of unwanted hitchhikers. for me, its been two manits and about 15 gorrila. there's also some more clicking in the tank currently but i cant find a mantis and nothing is dissapearing so i am wonding if it is pisol shrimp.

besides all of this i am still finding new stuff on the rock daily. i have at least 3 types of star enormous tube coral, cup coral and at least 5 mollusks. there is stuff everywhere on the rock.

elsewhere in rc i am trying to figure out what i saw at night in my tank. some bioluminescent (radiates light like a lighting bug) creature blinked on and off twice. i was totally blown away.

i am sure that i will go on methodiaclly dealing with the hitchhikers like i am. there is no panic because the destruction is not very present. in he mena time i am nearly unable to pull my eyes from the tank. its the first thing i do when coming home every day.

i would go through tbs again in a heartbeat. alos its better for the reefs to have aquacultured rock. to me it is the only sustainable way to keep our oceans safe from overharvesting.

I have a crazy experiment for you watchdr. Its a bit crazy but could work...

Get a big bin from target or wallmart.. put the rocks ( alternate rocks ) that you know that has crabs in it... try to burrow or get a decent size to big mantis shrimp( LET HIM GO BUCKWILD ON THE CRABS )... and put the rocks and mantis in the tub for a while.. Let the mantis clear the rocks of crabs then when done you can either trade him, sell him...

This thread is a perfect example of why you don't see more posts not "glorifying" TBS. Nobody wants to post because they get bashed by everyone most of which are just starting out or a year or so into their purchase. Just do some searches and you will see it over and over again. That is what makes this forum so one sided.

This only pertains to the rock and not the service, I've seen almost no complaints the service. ;)

Richard has been good. Also offered to give me some extra rock when I was experiencing problems with my rock die off. Rock has been recovering so far and I have not taken richards offer yet. But I do appreciate his genorosity. Always emails or gets back to you right away and very curtious.

Like with every business I believe you will get your ups and downs. your good customers and a-hole customers which is typical.

GL,

Exactly you are absolutely right. The service was ok but I just had a problem with the rock. Richard offered to replace all the rock I didn't want. But The soda water bath got rid of all but a couple of the gorilla crabs. And the soda water bath DID NOT kill off everything else.

I am amazed at that. I would have to say that is a positive for Richards rock that it can take a bath in soda water for a few minutes and still have everything else survive.

All the sponges, tunicates, oysters, clams, worms, feather worms, coraline algea, coral polyps have survived. The crabs and shrimp are the only casualties! Really wanted the pistol shrimp but I can always order more.

Now if I can get rid of the last couple of gorilla crabs I'll be happy.

Delsol,

I would do that if it was a big problem still. Right now I just have a couple of them left and pretty soon they will be too big to hide in the holes in the rocks. Then it will be easy pickin'!

Do mantis shrimp kill and eat gorilla crabs? If I had known that I would have put the 4 mantis shrimp in with the rock and just left it. Maybe not. Since everything else would probably have died off.

Thanks for the idea though.
