would it be ok to test for leaks with tap?

hi i am in the process of setting up a 24g aquapod. i would like to know if i can test it for leaks with tap water but gonna put aquasafe in it? this is just to test it for leaks when i do my main set up of the tank im gonna use RO water i just dont want to test it for leaks with RO water.

Sure, it is OK. Just completely empty, dry, etc.

ok thanks can you or anyone recommend how i can rinse Tropic Isle Tahitian Moon Sand before putting it in the tank or can i just put it in without rinsing it?

Put the sand in a 5 gal bucket and stick a hose down into it. Turn on the water and wait until the water runs clear. Stir the sand around during this to speed up the process.
