Have you tested his tap water he's putting in the tank? I'm betting there's something going on there... My local water is crap, and I'm betting his is too.

i would get RO or RODI water from a LFS, or even one of those Glacier vending machines over the tap water or spring water.

what would i need to test for in the tap water.none of the lfs up sell water.i dont know if it is somthing in he water or in the pipes i use tap water in all my tanks at home and the lfs i work at and we dont have any problems

Start with a pocket TDS (total dissolved solids) meter. If the TDS reads high... Probably crap water.

Take a sample of his water to your LFS and check for phosphates, nitrates, chlorine, pH, copper, etc. Every test you can think of to rule things out.

i dont have a tds meter or know anyonr i town with one.we have tested the tank water and it is good.should i test just tap water.

You dont need to buy water from a LFS. They have those glacier vending machine in front of many major supermarkets that will work ok.

what it the differnce between the glacier vending machine water and bottled spring water like mnt shasta spring water

spring water can be bottled water from anywhere. Just because its bottled doesnt mean its clean. RO/DI water is filtered with by reverse osmosis and Dionization.

Also, some so called spring water is purified water that has minerals added back in for taste. So who knows what tasty weird stuff they use.

If you want to mail me some water samples, I'll stick my tds meter in them.
