These worm-looking entities showed up rather suddenly. I was on a long vacation and a week after settling in (I was very preoccupied) I found these growing on the glass and in the crevices in rock. Always in dark areas. None of them visibly moving. I am very puzzled since they seemingly came from nowhere- nothing foreign was added to the tank in at least 5 months. They are all different sizes and seem to be harming nothing- everything else coral, fish, all inverts are healthy. they don't appear to act like worms- they (it) crumbles like calcium deposits when I brush it with a rubber squeegee that I use to clean algae off the glass.

They are filter feeding tube worms. I've had them in past sumps & overflow boxes.
I just left them alone.

thank you. I just noticed that they are feather type worms- I was looking at them under a heavy flashlight and of course they vanished so I didn't even notice that until I looked at the photos I took.
