Would like suggestions on fish for 55 gallon.

So I would like some opinions on finishing stocking my 55 gallon tank. I just upgraded to a 55 gallon from a 30 gallon. I currently have a mandarin and a valentini puffer. Im trying to get an idea of how many fish i could have and which fish would be more compatible fish for the 2 I already have. I really want a potters angel. My gf wants some clowns and an anemone.

Tell me how you might finish stocking my tank.

Mandarin will likely die as they need 100 gallons to provide for their eating habits, the potters angel more often than not is a coral killer and may also kill the anemone that your GF wants. I am asuming your GF wants the clownfish because of the movie nemo( curse it to a thousand deaths) this will be fine but in a captive setting it can be hard to get the clown to host the anemone. In a 55 gallon I would have from 4-7 fish. You will not be able to keep any tangs, triggerfish, or large angels

Thanks for your reply. I've had the mandarin for about 4 months now and he eats flake food and I supplement pods every few weeks. He is a very happy and healthy fish.i got lucky with him. Would I be able to get a blenny or will they clash. Will a damsel bully the puffer? Any other suggestions?

the damsel will end up just bullying everything. maybe you can look into a dwarf angelfish? it might be a problem with corals(its kind of a hit or miss) but they look pretty awesome. just my suggestion!

Some species of fairy and flasher wrasses will work.

Zebra bar gobies are outgoing and peaceful too.

Also, if you get wild clowns they will be more likely to host in an anemone and the clowns wont let anybody pick at the anemone if they host in it(although I have never had a potters angel go after an anemone).

Ask the LFS if they have any angelfish there that don't chow down on the corals. I love clownfish and would recommend them though I am not sure how they are with mandarins damsels are big bullies, I have a tailspot blenny with my pair of ocellaris clowns and the tailspot just hides. I am not sure about other blennys but the tail spot is a very peaceful fish and in my opinion a great addition to a tank

I have both a black and orange clownfish which attack me when I put my hand in the tank but since I added them last the do not bother my fire fish goby at all.

Both the fish I mentioned are pretty fish for clowns I would recommend the occeleris. They come in black and orange the black tend to be more expensive also if you get a black one make sure it has a orange face the orange faced ones are juvenile.

Fire Fish are pretty but can be real skid dish the hide under rocks

I don't know how any of the fish will do with the mandarin but the clowns will hold their own against the puffer.
