Would this look stupid?

Tanque Verde

I'm assembling a rimless illuminata. My preference would be to paint the back of the tank black. However, when I've done this in other rimless tanks, salt creep here and there has eroded the paint at the rim and made it look sloppy. To prevent that from happening, I am considering leaving a half inch of unpainted glass on the back pane. So basically, it would be black below the water line and clear at top. I think for the most part the effect would be the same as if I painted the whole rear panel. Is that nuts? (I don't want to do a foam background or drill the tank.)

Blue life has a product that applies like tint, the ones I did had no salt creep issues when applied correct. Super cool product and not too expensive.

yeah razor and soapy water to remove it fairly easy. But it is so easy to install it is hard to mess up. Just apply water to tank and then put black tint on then trim with razor to fit. You can trim prior to applying but I found it more accurate to apply and run the razor after it dries.
