I found a "grow-light" on ebay it is a 250w Metal Halide, with a 250w bulb that has 20,000 Lumens (?). Is that good? woudl this work for an aquarium? i mena, like i would have to get a special spectrum bulb, correct, but other than that, is this a god deal on somethign that would work for me?

I guess it would work if you changed out the bulb... Lumens is just a measurement of light output, has nothing to do with the temperature of the bulb (Kelvin). The lower (6500K) the warmer, and the higher (20000K), the cooler.

What exactly is it that your trying to accomplish with your lighting? How much do you have to spend, etc...

well, i want to have hard corals like acros and brains, ect... i will have a 75, and i am really trying to stay under $200 for two lights, but i found that , the price im looking for, is not there......

that is the link, but there are tons like it..... they are called "grow" lights, and i found a couple aquarium lights that had 10,000 spectrums and 250 w's that also said that they were used as "grow" lights....so...idk

Yes, 400watts is way to much, even with 20K bulbs. If you did that we would then see another thread from you saying, "Will this chiller work". :)

I have 2 400 watt mh on my 90 and the temp stays around 79-81 just have a single fan blowing across the top. I keep the house temp at 77. only drawback is my evap is like 2 1/2 gal a day. just bought a medical dosing pump and will be running from my drum so i dont have to fill by hand anymore.

OK, YOUNG BUC. I'VE GOT A DEAL FOR YOU, I WILL LET U TAKE MY 2X 250W BLUEWAVE BALLAST WITH 2 14K XM BULBS(WITH A SPARE), I KNOW THAT U R ON A BUGGET SO I WILL TAKE PAYMENTS(TRUSTING THAT U HAVE THE RESPONSIBLITY TO FULFILL YOUR OBLIGATIONS). I HAVE LOTS OF OTHER THINGS THAT YOU WILL NEED IF YOU ARE GOING TO RAISE SPS EX. CHILLER; RO; SKIMMER; SUMP; PUMPS; REFUG; ECT. I WANT YOU TO SET YOUR TANK UP, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU NEED TO DO IT RIGHT. TELL ME HOW MUCH U CAN AFFORD EVERY MONTH AND I WILL WORK WITH U. DO YOU HAVE A JOB?

well, that woud be too complicated to do for me, i cannot spend alot of money and i am runnign on bare minimums, but thatnk you for assuring me that i CAN use 400w's, i will ahve to keep my eyes open more.. thanks : )

I agree you CAN run 400w MH's, you could run 1000w MH's too, but why?

I just don't think the benefits would outway the cost IMO. Say you went with the 400's, and you aren't as lucky with your tank temps as plumb, then what do you do? You've spent what little money you do have on a light setup that you aren't able to use. Then comes the additional electric expense every month, get where I'm going?

I would try and work out something with Bluefintuna, that seems like a great setup and I'm sure you could work with him in regards to the price...

I COULDN'T IMAGINE THE MONEY I WOULD HAVE SAVED IF I DID IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME MANY YEARS AGO. I DIDN'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF THE NETWORKING THAT IS AVAILABLE NOW. I WISH SOME ONE WOULD HAVE DONE FOR ME WHAT IM OFFERING YOU. BUT YOU'LL LEARN, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. GOOD LUCK, GRASSHOPPER.
