Would you ruin the harmony with a powder blue tang ?

I am just saying that it has been done with long term success by myself and literally thousands of other people. If it is a well run tank his odds are quite good. If it doesn't work out remove the fish. To tell him that it will be certain disaster is just plain false and likely based on what has been read instead of multiple cases of personal experience. That is what I am drawing upon to give my 2 cents.

Just print out some pics of powder blues just in case he does go on the offensive you can detour him to what he thinks is his own kind rather than your current inhabitants. Tape them on the tank and I promise he will exhaust himself on those pics alone if ya need to

How can you possibly know "thousands of other people" have had success?

It has absolutely zero to do with a "well run tank". It has everything to do with the biological nature of that species of tang, as well as the experience of many, many aquarists who have added a fish only to have to remove either that fish or its carcass. No one can say it is "certain disaster". Many have said that it isn't worth the risk.

Another thing to keep in mind, I've seen (personally, even) instances where not only was the harmony ruined by the addition of another fish, but it never got back to normal, even with the removal of said fish. Sometimes the dynamics get changed permanently. Just something to think about.

Personally, I feel that harmony is incredibly important. Once the population of a tank is set and all get along well, I am loath to potentially disturb that unless it is a fish you have to have. Even then . . . especially if it is a problematical fish to start with . . .

Really cool video Brian. Love your tank, that thing is amazing. I dont even want to know how much money you have in that thing. I have dumped a ton into mine and I dont have a single fish or corral yet! For the OP, I don't have alot of experience with fish yet but, sometimes in life the KISS method works well. Or in otherwords "stick with what works" but, hey you neer know it might work out for you. Keep us updated

It would be difficult to know whether my opinion is the same as yours, when my opinion is based on the original poster's actual question, and yours is speculation on whether a particular stocking mix is possible.

The problem is that you never know what is going to happen when you add a fish. I bought PB from a friend that was shutting down his tank. The PB had lived with a Yellow tang and behaved perfectly in his previous tank. I added the new PB to my 215G and it almost killed my YT and terrorized all the other fish. I finally caught the devil fish and sold it to another guy (with full disclosure I will add). Within a day of moving to this new home the PB was buddies with a YT tank mate, and a day later they were even sleeping together. Go figure.

I think the general advice of "Don't get it unless you really really want it" is good advice. Why change a good thing. If you want to go with it i personally would not buy one unless
(1) QT setup available
(2) Spare tank available if things go south (QT may be needed for injured tank mates)
(3) Divider already bought that fits the tank (in case you can't catch it, it is a fast fish in a 300g tank).
(4) Pictures of PBT printed and ready as a last resort

If you go with it, good luck, but it seems like the vast majority of people who have tried later ended up with a difficult situation, especially with a few docile tangs for tank mates.
