Nice colors, but I've never understood the extremely high price tag on these fish. There are fish with nicer colors for way less $$ IMO. They look like guppies with striped coloration

I wonder what makes them so rare, as most basslets are relatively cheap and easy to get. I love the coloration on this fish but it's also only 1.75" long and basslets tend to stay in a small area and close to rocks so it can hide. For that money, it would nicer to have a larger free swimming fish so you can appreciate it's beauty and rarity from a distance, without trying to find it all the time.
Rare fish in the trade arent necessarily rare in number... they come from difficult places to 'go fishing', or from places with very strict regulations
Looks to me like a fantastic marketing scheme by LiveAquaria. The Candy Basslet is articled in the new issue of coral magazine under the Rarities section. So now the collectors probably want one so the price goes up!! It is a gorgeous fish none the less and if I could afford it I would very much have one!!

From what I've read, part of the reason why they are so expensive is because they are a deepwater fish (usually found between 100-250 feet). They are also a reclusive fish that mostly dwell in caves.
I wouldn't go so far as to bash LiveAquaria; with that price you are also recieving a no-hassle 14 day guarantee, which (especially on that expensive of a fish) I doubt you'll find anywhere else. I was lucky enough to see them in person at LiveAquaria's MACNA booth, and they really are unlike any other basslet.
