As the title states I am looking for a wow fish. The tank is being setup presidents day so I have some time to look. Please help me with this task.
Please leave suggestions
thank you

Thats a hard sized tank for wow fish. Almost anything is subjective-and it may depend on the individual personality of the fish and the setup being well suited to it. If it is the 36x12x24 tank I would consider a flasher wrasse. If it is a cube format I might think of a dwarf angel, with the understanding it may outgrow the tank. Smaller tanks are often more interesting with smaller fish that "bring you into the tank" to view them. The red and white spotted hawkfish- or flame hawkfish. any of the interestingly colored blennies. The yellow brotulid is a fascinating fish that is not unlike a freshwater knife fish in swimming motion. They are cheap on divers den as well.

If you don't care about price, a candy basslet is perfectly suited for that size tank

I love candy basslets but out of my price range. Any other cool fish that would work?

I love the flasher wrasses. These are my McCoskers:

With those dimensions, the only Wrasses I can recommend would be those that work in a 30 gallon or less, so one from the Wetmorella genus (Possum), Pseudocheilinops ataenia (Pink Streaked Wrasse), and Minilabrus striatus (Minute Wrasse). Basically all mentioned are uncommon, and definitely unusual :)

How about a Sohal Tang, as in, "WOW, why is that fish in there?"

:ape:

It depends on your definition of 'wow.' If you're willing to spend $60ish, a Helfrichi Firefish has lots of color, and would be good for your tank.

As others have said, you're really limited with your tank. So, to me, a 'wow' fish for your tank is something like a Court Jester Goby.

Also, a long term in the future, 'wow' fish could be a Mandarin.

I know that they are a bit over done but I still like several of the designer clownfish that are out there .... Prices can get a bit wild for some of the newer ones (ORA gold nugget for example) but some others are quite reasonable I have a pair of snowflakes in my tank they spawn once a month which definitely adds to the wow factor...

Could also go for a sunburst anthia (probably my favorite anthia) or a ventralis anthia (though your tank might be too small for one of those) or a white cap goby+ pistol shrimp as for affordable 'wow' factor wrasses I like the bipartitus though they can be finicky and again may not be suited to something that small

I was thinking:
2 clowns
2 mandarin dragonet after established for a while
looking for some swimming fish.
