:eek1: And its been nice with the heater on only here and there.

I have now talk to my kids about every freaking light being on in the house. Oh and lets not forget about all the Christmas light I had going on top that.. Coming down the street looked like you were pulling into the heavens gates with a nice blue glow coming from the front door.. LoL

But since I brought up the Elc bill How long does everyone run there lights? I'm sure that would help too if I can turn them back an hour or so.

I hope this bill has the price increase on it..

haha...tell the kids to watch their lights...make sure you are adamant that it couldnt possibly be your tank causing the electricity bill to spike

you could also say that you checked their video games and they use about 3 kwh/h so they can only play 1 hour per week

I would but that keeps them out of my but all night long :D

I do 10hrs with one tank now, but with my new tanks using 4x175w mh & 440w vho and 4x400w mh & 440w vho, 1100w ac unit, 2500w heaters, 500w skimmer and pumps, 300w powerheads...I will be doing 8hr photo periods for mhs and 4hr vho...2hr on, then off, then on last two hours.

I pay $130 per month just for the fishroom. There is over 2,000w lights and 1,000w of pumps and the A/C/heater/dehumidifier. You can watch my meter cook!!! It is what it is. I looked into propane gen. but propane costs more than current elec. I looked into solar panels, but long term 5 year maintenance costs were cost prohibitive again. I checked hydrogen fuel cell and that uses propane again. Long term costs too high.

Then you have to figure the bulk food required annually, water changes, and chemical/filter media replacement costs. It totals to about $4500+ annually with out buying any livestock or equipment.

I hope this will make you feel better about the lights being left on.

didnt even notice your original question

I run mine 8-10 hours/day but IM only rocking 144w total

I didn't think the price increase started here in Illinois until JAN 3rd so Lonnie yours might only be part of a month. :(
Hope not though!!! Since I sold the 200 and changed the 220 from MH to VHO my bill went down over $100.00 a month. I guess I should prepare for it to go back up that much with the increase.

my atcinics and one 20K 400wmh run 9-10HRS and the other 2-10k 400wmh run 8hrs. From what I here you can do 6HRS. Install, more insulation in the attic, use flourescent screw in bulbs, install fluorescent fixtures and install dimmers.

I got my bill today, and compared to last month it is up $70.00

That is what I'm expecting as well. :(

Yeah it should be really interesting when summer hits and the air is on. I clicked on budget billing and so I am setup with that now.

Mark, pay attn to the amount you use on your bill every month.. I have heard from so many people that have taken that (budge billing) and when they revise the rates, 6 months later they owe about an extra bill.. They are going to go back the last 6 months prior to the increase and have you pay that avg amount.

Lets just say your bill was $200 and it went up $70. The avg over the last 6 months is $211 . So in 6 months with the increase you should be paying more like $250-$260 so at the end when they go back over it you will owe them $225 plus.. I have heard this more than once.

The main thing is to pay attn to your usages.

This is one very good reason why I haven't started my tank back up.:(

i thought you got a sps tank going... like a 40g or something?

I do, it doesn't have any lights or a skimmer on it. No fish, just live rock. Fade 32 has all my corals.
