So, today was designated as my sump revision day. Plan was to shut down the sump completely, drain it, install a shelf to hold a smaller tank higher on the wall to serve as a separate fuge, completely clean out the sump of collected detritus, set everything back up with the skimmer in what was the fuge area before to give it more elbow room. Everything went pretty smoothly at first. Went to HD and picked up the few plumbing parts I needed to plumb the pump going to the fuge and the drain coming from it. I installed the heavy duty shelf brackets on the exposed 2x4's in the sump room (supposed to be able to hold 1000 lbs). Placed the fuge tank on them and so far so good. After rinsing out the sump on the drive way, I brought it back in and started to place it back where it was. While doing so, I jarred the plumbing for the return pump...this began the bad part.
Apparently, I hit it just hard enough to jar BOTH return bulkheads loose and suddenly I had massive leaks coming from both lines. I had to run out of the sump room and into the tank room and grab my tools to try and fix things. After some time of adjusting the position of the plumbing slightly and tightening the bulkhead, I managed to stop the leaking, but not until it had drained at least about 4 or 5 gallons...all into my stand and out the back onto the carpet. This really sucked and I was stressing on what I was going to do to fix it...envisioned having to replumb my returns and whatever all else.
So finally, I get the leak stopped, get the sump filled, and the return pump turned back on. I go back out to watch the tank and everybody in there is acting kind of weird with all the attention today. My wife is standing there too and she says, "Where's the other clown?" I really don't know. The larger clown is acting like a nut. Is swimming from one coral to another acting like it's trying to host in it. It pseudo-hosted on a plate coral, on candy canes, on a pump, it was just acting totally goofy. So, I attributed the missing clown to just simply hiding in the rocks. So, a couple hours wore on and still no second clown. Was getting near lights out when I decided to give a quick look in the overflow towers. Sure enough, one small clown in one of them. Had to pull off the canopy and wriggle a net down into the overflow. I stuck the net way down in and tried to shoo the clown up and then pull the net up and get lucky and nab him. I did get lucky and managed to get him on the third try. The other clown was ecstatic that his/her buddy was back.
I still have to get the plumbing together to have the fuge running and I'm tired as heck, been working on this since 9:30 this morning, but here I go.
