All.

A policy of the COMAS forum ia a request that local fish stores/businesses are not bad mouthed inside our forum. It was a rule we voted in at the beginning of last year.

Please try to abide by that rule.

This rule came into being when a local store refused to have anything to do with COMAS because of the repeated accusations and bad press it had received prior to that time.

Please, lets try and follw that rule.

P.

all i was curious about was how Gary got banned. apparently RC think this is a serious infraction. It is kinda unusual that RC would temper any discussion about this issue. I think it would be in their interest since it would clear up any issues about how one conducts oneself in our forum...so other would not make the same mistakes. but instead RC decides to suggest discussions is not wanted or needed. i thought this was a pseudo public forum and the topic about Gary is of our forum's concern. Wouldnt it not be better to get things out in the open so even if Gary was wrong we can all learn from his mistakes? Unusual that RC is so sensitive about a discussion that is of great concern for our forum. no offense RC but we are greatful for the forum you allow for our hobby to foster but being that live in a society that values open discussions and opinions, would it not be better that you allow such discussions?

Gary was banned for a post that was deemed to be commercial in nature. Some one was asking if they knew where they could get a gigas. They asked 2x.

Gary responded with something alog the lines of " I heAr theRe may be some aT a local store soon" or something like that....and if you look at the capital letters it spelled ART. This was deemed by a moderator to be a violation of the user agreement. Since Gary had previously broken the user agreement (on his very first post...see later), that was his two strikes and he was out.

When Gary came to OKC he posted (his first post) that he had a store and was open for business. Im guessing since it was his first post that he didnt know that he broke RC rules and he was told by a moderator that that was a no-no.

the rules may be harsh....but they are the rules of RC. Im not saying they are good or bad, but they are there.

Anyways, thats pretty much what happened.

Now....could we let this matter drop. If Gary decides to come back, Im sure he will be allowed to after whatever time-out period was imposed, but that is for him to decide.

Paul.

and if anyone wants to see RC's side of the story you can dig back through his old posts and see for yourself how many times they had to remove his posts for commercial posting.....he was warned quite a few times

It's amazing to me that any of us retailers even view these forums as RC promotes online businesses the we, as retailers, cannot compete with [due to a nationwide volume and pricing]. I originally started looking at RC to see what, if anything, folks were saying about our store. Obviously, as seen in several threads, it is a good indicator of what we are doing wrong and what we are doing right in some of the serious hobbyists eyes. It has become more for some of us retailers - some of us that have a lot of experience in this hobby like to offer info. IMO IF we had better stores throughout the country RC would be a useless entity...but because you can string out $30K on credit cards you can open a store and give advise based on your 2 years of experience keeping condy anemones and spotted sweetlips in a 20 gallon tank with a WalMart filter [sorry tanget...off target of post and I will stop at this point]. You get my point - I hope?! Our industry has a lot of valuable retailers out there with lots of experience to prove it. We also have a lot of people that own stores that have purchased velcro strap shoes because they are not smart enough to figure out shoelaces...and that really sucks because it gives that hobby a bad reputation of being difficult due to misinformation. Damn...to many tangents off topic - forgot my point and going to get another beer - yeah it's 3.2 you SOB Okies!!!!! I wanna go back to Atlanta!

You are wise and correct. I heard someone from OKC went to 2 Tulsa stores last weekend. They said they like your store a lot.

Scott, I come to T-town every chance I get to come to your place. I spoke with you last time I was up on a salt bucket run. Hope all is well, I wish I could've made it this weekend, but busy season right now.

Cheers

lets drop this..and hopefully Gary can work things out with RC...maybe it would be beneficial if our site has its own forum

While I for one am a proponent of having our own forum...... I am also a proponent if being respectful of Reef Central while we are here. So please, take the lead from pwhitby and lawboy888, etc, and let's LET THIS GO.

We don't need to get ourself in trouble. For any negative we are experiencing from RC now, we have benefited FAR MORE from them over the years.

So from me personally, thank you Reef Central for the years of support of our LFC (local fish club).

I hate to thrust myself into the midst of this. However, I feel compelled to do so. Gary is a client of mine.

The above quoted posts are simply examples of commentary that borders on Slander under Oklahoma Statutes.

Yea if you payed to use the search function.

It has long been COMAS policy to not allow the forums to be used for attacking LFS or individual members. Paul has already stated that in this thread. Continuing this discussion is not good for any of us collectively or individually. Please let this discussion drop.

Thanks

Not really, Nick. Click the Members button at the top, click the advanced search tab, type in gwalker and submit, and then click "search for all posts by this user". Then go look at the last page. Or find a post by him and click this icon -

Gary's First Post

And for what it is worth from Tuan's thread, April isn't banned. Her last post was 11/6/06. I believe she just doesn't post often.

I already knew that.I was being my typical smart*** self about the whole issue of going searching for stuff on here and having to pay a fee for their search engine.
