wrasse combination

I currently am upgrading my reef tank from a 60g to a 120g. I have a multicolored wrasse in it right now. When I am finished with the upgrade, I would like to add a McCosker's Wrasse. (Both Male) Will this combination be a problem?

Nope, not in my experience, I have a Solorensis, Scott's, Pink margin, Lubbocks, and Whipfin in a 120gal all of them are male.

I think he's talking about a Lubbocks, I have seen them called "multi-colored".

It is a Velvet Multicolor Wrasse
(Cirrhilabrus luteovittatus). I am glad to hear that I might add the McCosker Wrasse. I should've said earlier, I've got a Mystery Wrasse in the mix as well.

Those 3 should be fine together.

The Mystery Wrasse may prove problematical for new wrasses.

Like Steve said the mystery might be an issue. Mystery wrasses and 6 line wrasses seem to be problematic with fairy/flasher wrasses.

Six line wrasses WILL be a problem with Fairy/Flasher wrasses. Don't even think about that! There are some other problematical species such as dottybacks (exept orchid).

By the way LargeAngels, where did you get the PAIR of C. multicolor? And that crossbreed yellow is remarkable to say the least.

snorvich. The multicolors mostly came from Jeremy at Premium Aquatics. His Marshall Island Collector is awesome. The yellow looks like a crossbread, but I think it is some type freak of nature like the white yellow tangs. I got it from a wholesaler in Hawaii collected in Hawaii.

My mystery wrasse is fairly small now..about 2". The velvet wrasse isn't bothered a bit by him; then again he's about 3.5".
I suppose that my best chance is get a McCoskers that is relatively large compared to the mystery wrasse.

It is not just size it is perceived territorial imperative. The mystery wrasse is there first. It is not necessarily a problem but it could be. I would say 60/40 that it will be.

Thanks for the feed back! As I said earlier in the thread, I am upgrading to a 120g in the next week or so. Would it be much of a risk to add the McCosker wrasse at that time, when they are all reestablishing territory?

Restructuring always is a good idea but long term, the mystery wrasse may become problematical.

i've seen some 5" mysteries... nothing nice about them.. mean buggers. However, adding it last may work in a 120.. but be ready to yank him out if need be.

I already have him, and so far he's about the most docile fish in the tank - about 2 months now. I have a 3-4" velvet wrasse with him with not even a glance. The yellow tang is the king right now and the mystery wrasse knows it.

they are nice in the beginning. they do get big and will pesture more passive fish. If you add more fish when you upgrade, add him last anyway.
