wrasse id please

As the title says can someone ID this wrasse?

(haliochoeres timorensis) great wrasse i have one that's about 5inches now very peaceful & active is it yours

is there something wrong with it's mouth the bottom lip looks a little odd

H. timorensis is correct, and it's just beginning to transition to male.

However, missing that lower jaw is probably due to a collection injury and will be its demise. If it's an old injury, it might be alright, but that sort of injury generally leads to a starving wrasse.

Yes it is mine. Thanks for the ID. did notice the lip injury. The LFS had it for over a month and it is eating pellets and mysis shrimp so hopefully it will be ok. Thanks for the ID

Well defiantly missing the lower jaw and now it looks like more damage has happened to the upper jaw. Still eating mysis and pellets but you can tell it is having a hard time getting the mysis down. I guess as long as it keeps eating it should be ok, right?

Mouth/jaw injuries can easily lead to secondary infections and are near impossible to overcome if not treated right away.

I count myself lucky then. I purchased a radiant wrasse about a year ago. During his 6 week QT his lower jaw separated and then fell off (happened the first week I had him). He's still alive and well, eating mysis, spirulina enriched brine shrimp and Spectrum pellets.

Glad to hear I am not alone. Mine is still eating pellets and mysis like a pig so hopefully I will be in the same boat as you! I figure if he is still eating and staying plump I should be ok
