Wrasse ID

Hi i have had this wrasse for some time now and don't know what it :headwallblue:is when i got it i was told it was a melanurus wrasse but it hasn't colored up like one so if you could ID it that would be great thanks

My guess is Halichoeres melanurus, female or initial stage. If not it is something very closely related.
 
+1 I agree, I also have one that is in the same stage and looks similar to yours minus the spot on the tail.
 
I was also thinking either H. melanurus or H. leucurus. As philter4 pointed out, your fish appears to be in the "initial" or female stage. Males will display much more bold colors. That could be why it's coloration looks different than what you have in mind.

thanks that was a great website i think its a female malanurus wrasse :thumbsup:
