Wrasse! Post your favorite wrasse!

I really like my little ol' sixline. They get a bad rap but mine is a model citizen and has so much personality. I've had fairy wrasses and a yellow coris wrasse in the past and they are all great but I think the sixline is equally exquisite.

I think that they get the bad rap just due to the fact that they will get more aggressive in smaller tanks, and you can't keep any other wrasses with them generally without having problems. Iv'e kept two in the past with no problems and were complete model citizens, but then again I didn't keep the collection of wrasses I do today.

I had 1 that got very aggressive in a 5', 170g tank...never again!

Well I guess hopefully I get lucky. Mine is the least dominant in a tank with a pair of percs, a yellowtail damsel and a flame angel but I've only had him for around 4 months.

I really enjoy my Leopard wrasse allot. He is always out, eats anything and never chases any other fish.

I currently only have a melanarus and longfin fairy wrasse. I had a labouts but he jumped ship even though I have eggcrate covering the top....still don't know how he got threw since he was pretty big.....possibly via the overflows where the eggcrate WAS cut out...the overflows are now covered with screen, (a costly error). Anyway....I am contemplating a Lineatus Fairy Wrasse or a mystery wrasse. Quite a difference in price but the body coloration is a little similar...any opinions?
I also want to add 1 male and 2 female blue star leopard wrasses.

Stay away from the mystery; Pseudocheilinus wrasses don't mix well with other wrasses.

Egg crate isn't a great tank cover for wrasses; if the head fits the fish WILL fit. It's a matter of time. 1/4" clear mesh is a much better choice.

What type of leopard wrasse is that?
thanks
Macropharyngodon meleagris

I just got an xl lineatus from LA
They still have them on sale. Still expensive but hey you get free shipping.:lolspin:
Beautiful fish and glad I spent the money on him.

My favorite that I've owned so far has been pyle's fairy wrasse. I had two females for several months before I had equipment problems then brook managed to take over after having a friend take them for a week. Beautiful fish, and was never as aggressive as I've heard they can be. Though, I never got to see either female turn male (one was transitioning).

Some wrasses I have in mind for the new tank:
Rhomboid
Flame
Lineatus
Eightline Flasher
Linespot Flasher

Only thing is that I want to keep a small group and females are hard to come by around here. So far the most likely is the eightline flasher.

I need to get more but to be honest and I'm sure I'll take a beating here but my favorite is my sixline. Its is an absolutely beautiful fish one of the nicest sixlines ive seen. Oh and not the least bit aggresive. But there are exceptions to every thing I guess. i also love my melenarus also but he is a snail decimating machine

I've got about a foot of euro bracing all the way around my tank with 3 "openings" in the middle of my tank. I had it made this way to stop jumpers but still allow light penetration. I had clear covers made for the openings so light could still penetrate.

My quarantine tank I cover with the mesh.

My observations: Wrasses jump. All the time. Without the mesh the quarantine tank would be a death trap to them.

However my main tank is a bit different. The only fish that jumps through the holes on my main tank are firefish believe it or not. I've had the covers off the holes in my main tank and my wrasses don't make it through them. I've seen them repeatedly cruise up the sides and try to escape hitting the large euro brace.

So my observation is that unless you have massive eurobracing, don't even try to attempt any open space at all. In fact, start with a complete covering. Whenever a new wrasse goes in the clear covers go on for months until I'm 100% sure hes not trying to aim for the center holes :)

^ I feel you're likely playing with fire on that one. Yes, wrasses tend to jump more often along the edges of the tank, but there's no reason they can't/won't in the center as well.

You can construct screens which will sit atop the eurobraces.
