Wrasse qt guidelines

I have ordered four wrasses. Two fairy and two flasher. I've read bad things about treatments in qt being fatal. So what is the best method that does but include tank transfer method (I don't have another 40 gallon tank available). I'm new to wrasses but want to do the best qt I can with my current set up.

I have prozi pro and copper meds in hand.

Don't do copper with wrasses.

Prazi should be fine with them. You don't need another 40 for TTM. 5 gallon buckets will do, or even two ten gallon tanks if you have the space.

QT isn't necessarily a medicated tank.. +1 on the prazi though.. I like safety stop baths on a lot of fish. Of course with certain species exclusions. Anthias, wrasse...

Just put a 2.75" fairy wrasse (C. Solorensis) thru QT: initial 45min Formalin bath, followed by TTM in 10G tanks w/PVC elbows, dosing PraziPro on transfers 2 and 4. No problem whatsoever :dance:

I have not had good results with CP and wrasses. TTM with prazi is the gold standard IME.

Don't use it with wrasses - it may kill them.
CP is for sure toxic to all members of the pipefish/seahorse family.

I'm not going to be able to do ttm. I don't have oroper equipment. I don't feel 4 wrasses will be comfortable enough to eat all they need to due to stress of small bucket and being moved. And lastly, I'm pregnant w a husband traveling for work. I can't be doing all that's involved every 2-3 days.

With that being said. I guess I'll just observe only for external parasites.

I would do observation and then do TTM one by one before they go into the tank. That can be done in containers placed into the tank.

So you think a 5 ga bucket w small heater will suffice for one at a time. New air stone and airline each time. I'd actually need two heaters to allow for cleaning in between.

5 gallon is plenty for one little fish - if it was me I would do all 4 in it as long as they don't fight with each other.

I also would not put the heater into the bucket/container but rather place the TTM vessel into the 40B and heat that one. That way you don't need to clean anything while doing TTM

I have done ttm with a pair of flame wrasse and pair of Pintail wrasse together in a 5gal bucket with no issues. All ate well with no aggression. I did 100% daily water change to prevent ammonia, worked out really well. I had bad luck with wrasse and cupramine and CP in the past.
