Wrasse question

I was looking into finally getting new fish for my tank (just got rid of my current fish in my tank) I was wanting to add a couple of wrasses and I know that I need a couple of females in the tank. I was looking on live aquaria at the wrasses and it doesn't look like any species can be ordered for a female. Some of the slides say male XXX, and some just say XXX. I was wondering if the ones that say just the name and not male or female will be random shipment, or can you normally request a female.

In addition I only have around $150 to spend on wrasses and I wanting at least 2-4. I like these 3 so far, but I am open to other wrasse options if you guys have any preferences since these ones almost all look alike (all redish)

Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis)
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus mccoskeri)
Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis)

no reason to get females on wrasses if you don't want em.. Some wrasses might keep there colors better and display a bit more, but I have 6 wrasses in my tank all diff species at least 4 are male. All are doing great.

you should be fine as long as they are all added at the same time. great choices by the way. if you want to save some $, I'd suggest replacing the Orange-Back with a Solar Wrasse, I've kept a few and they are beautiful as well as a ton of personality. Also you will want to place a mesh over your tank as the Fairys and Flashers like to jump.

All the wrasses would be added at the same time if I can help it. How much do the colors fade? I would rather have the colors be as vibrant as possible, but that might not work if I cannot find any females.

Another quick question. Does the female wrasse need to be from the same species, or can any wrasse that is female work?

All depends on what kind of wrasses you will be adding. There are agressive as well as non-agressive wrasses. I stick with fairy wrasses. they are non-agressive for the most part.

Some of the "peaceful" wrasses aren't too peaceful...

I think there's a thread about killer wrasses around here.

These were the ones I was thinking about adding

Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis)
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus mccoskeri)
Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis)

They will be added to the tank at same time since I am ordering from Live aquaria, but it is also not guarantee on what sex they are. They could both be female or both me male.

I thought about asking my LFS if he could get me some in, but I am unsure how healthy his specimens would be, and also Live aquaria has the 14 day guarantee.

If they all come in male, I could always order some from my LFS if he can get females, but That might put me over the edge in fish load for my tank

LA stocks mostly males, and they state the sex as well.

Some are labeled. The McCoskers will be male. Most of the fairy wrasses' don't state a sex. I talked to support and they said that they cannot guarantee what sex you would receive on those.
