wrasse question...

Gotta question about wrasses. I am a fan of mellenarus and Christmas wrasses. I know they are with caution in a reef tank. I know they might not be to good with cleaner shrimp and all. and may even beat up and kill the cleaning crew. like most fish its hit or miss....but how are both of these wrasse or either one of these wrasse with flasher wrasse and fairy wrasse??

I have a melanurus with a pair of solon fairy wrasses, a yellowfin fairy, a two-tone wrasse and a blue spot toby. The all play well together :)

I have one mellenarus in a 150 reef tank he has been a model citizen so far. NOTE I have no shrimp, we do have hermit and emerald crabs and snails are still fine though. had him for a while now too.

I only have experience with a melanarus wrasse. If he is introduced last I don't think he'll be an issue. Your shrimp and clean up crew may still be in jeopardy but other wrasses should be fine.

Mine is good with my cleaners and fire shrimp. Keep him fed though. He is not too friendly with my clean up crew and tends to pick on my clams but doesn't nip the mantles.

Melanurus.

I have a 6 inch melanurus with fairy wrasse and flasher wrasse and he is fine. He did act out against a leopard wrasse but only durring feeding times and nothing serious, just enough to keep her from eating :(

He eats hermits, and ate my small cleaner shrimp over the past 2 years.

thank you everyone so far. I don't have shrimp as of now. was gunna stay away from them cause I really wanted a melanarus, ive had one in the past, but was also looking at a Christmas wrasse and a leopard wrasse as well. but im guessing snails are the better way to go as far as a clean up crew goes.. I did have a big blue legged hermit with my old 4" melanarus in my old tank. he didn't bother him at all. but any smaller hermits. he would pick up, fly around the tank with it in his mouth like a show piece then spit it out and all was good till next play time session lol...

I have a melanurus and a claudia with three fairies and two flashers with no problems in a 72x24x21. No aggression problems at all. They have eaten a few snails but my four shrimp (2 fire, 2 skunk) haven't been looked at. Hermits have not been targeted either. Look how brazen the shrimp are in this video. I didn't catch it but at one time there were two shrimp on the veggie clip

To be fair I think if I had trained my leopard the feeding routine it would have been fine but I was worried about her starving in the acclimation box lol.

In the most general sense, Cirrhilabrus, Paracheilinus, Halichoeres, and Macropharyngodon all are compatible with each other.

There are certain species exceptions, however.
