Im Looking for a wrasse or two to add to my tank. My current livestock in my 90gal is

Yellow tang
Hippo Tang
2x Percula Clowns
Cleaner Wrasse
Diamond Goby
Purple Firefish
Mandarin Goby (that happily accepts frozen food :) )

Im just lookin for the last couple fish to top off my tank. I'm looking for something pretty different and original since most of my fish are pretty common fish. Help me out guys and girls.

I had a McCoskers flasher wrasse, they have great colorings. He jumped though, and so did my Carpenters flasher as well. Id suggest a lid for the tank.

The leopard wrasse is my favorite. very unique fish but hard to get it to start eating in your aquarium

I like the challenge of trying to get a hard to feed fish to accept frozen, I did it with the Green Mandarin.

A pair of flame wrasse would be a great addition

I was thinking the same thing but they seem pretty common and i wanted to try something different than the norm. i always get sucked into the popular ones haha.

are wrasses known to jump? usually when i add any fish i keep a lid on the tank for the first 2 weeks until the fish is acclimated to my system than i usually remove it. how long were your wrasses in your tank before they jumped?

Have you considered a condei wrasse (cirrhilabrus condei)? Hardly anyone keeps them, but they are gorgeous. I had one for several months, but then I had to move. While I was trying to catch him so he could go to his new home he jumped out of the tank and killed himself upon impact with a 2x4. It was a really sad day.

Almost all wrasses are known jumpers. If you don't have a cover on your tank it will be only a matter of time before you find them on the ground. I use birdnetting with 1/4 inch holes to keep my wrasses in the tank.

IFbettas i ill definitely check it out, I have no problem putting a lid on my tank i mean i'm not attached to not having one. Plus i would be protecting my investment. The only thing is i would want something that'd look good because i have an hanging light with no canopy so whatever lid i see would be seen pretty easily.

If you are seriouse about getting a wrasse, you will definately need a cover.

Here is the best netting and it has instructions on how to build one for yourself.

wow that net is pretty sweet i will check it out. i've had my firefish for about 8 months and me really doesn't leave the bottom 3 inches on my tank.

I was looking into a Labouts Fairy wrasse. anyone every check into one of those? they seems really sweet, but also really expensive.

If you want any wrasse get a cover like Bradleyj showed, make sure you use 1/4" netting. I would not put a mystery wrasse with a firefish, it will just be a matter of time until the mystery takes him out. Laboute are very nice as are flame wrasses and lineatus. Rhomboids are IMO the nicest but the most expensive!

thanks pat for your advice, looks like ill be setting up the net lid after all. are there any other wrasse species that i should be worried about with my firefish?

BradleyJ your link does not work. i will search the bulkreefsupply site in the morning to see if i can find what you meant to send me.

I have a pair of labouts. They are young, but definately beautiful.

Many others as well.

And it's because of the mesh top that I'm able to keep them all.

Try also a melanarus.... i love mine... he has very very nice colors.... and a great personality... mine doesnt bother anyone... (i have a purple and reg firefish, coris wrasse, flasher wrasse, and six line) He is a little bigger than the others... i also have a 90, and he doesnt jump...my midas blenny jumps more when the clowns chase him, i have bird block Just in case.. OHH and he eats pests like many other wrasse.....

In their search box, use clear 1/4" netting.

thanks brad, your tank is sooo awesome. How are the labouts wrasse's? I think that might be the one for me,
-Are they better in pairs?
-Are they aggressive at all toward your other fish?
-Are they pretty easy to feed?

I just picked up a male pencil wrasse, he's beautiful and you don't see them around often. He was also not that expensive.

Mine looks like this:
