hello,

i am looking for thoughts or recommendations for adding some fish to my 75g.
after doing more research, i would like to stick to reef safe wrasses.

i am debating on a male and couple females, or several males of different kinds.

i am not sure if this would work in a 75g or not with current residents??? thoughts?

i am also open to suggestions.

current stock...

- pair of cellaris clowns

- purple firefish

- orange spot goby

- tail spot blenny

- blue manderin, eats frozen and who has a fatter belly now then when i got her

have a suggestion to types? a male and a couple females of the same type or several males of different types?

thanks...

So many choices - I would check online such as Live Aquaria for idea and post a narrowed down list to check as to what is compatible with your selections. There are also a WIDE range of prices so tough to give suggestions.

Although....I can "tell" you I currently have a solorensis, blue fairy, pintail, flame, and pair of lubbocks. I have a golden rhomboibalis and lineatus in route. In the cheaper range I would hands down suggest the Lubbock's - vibrant multi colors, and although can be shy at first, once they get used to the tank mine are always out and about. The lineatus, rhomboid, pintail, and flame are all a bit more $ but they are also all stunning with IMO the Lineatus as the most stunning, prized possession of the bunch. Although the recommended tank size for a flame or lineatus per LA is 90g - I would think 1 in your 75g would be ok.

I have read the Solorensis can be more aggressive than the others I have listed, but I have not experienced ANY such aggression. Any great looking, active fish, and also on the cheaper side.

So many choices - but great choice of species. I have several other fish but I still gravitate to the beauty of my wrasses.

thanks for the feedback...

well... a few possibles would be...

- lubbock's
- red head salon
- whip fin fairy
- orange back fairy
- mc cosker"s
- red velvet fairy
- linespot flasher
- ?mystery wrasse? not sure if it would be good with inverts.

i'm leaning towards the lubbock's first.

thoughts on these? maybe a male and a female or 2 or several different males?

thoughts on mystery?

i have only been into reefing for about 6 months. trying to stay to the lower end of the price line on stocking, at least for now.

AND... i forgot to mention that i would rather not have any that compete for pods. i have a mandarin that eats frozen, but i would like to leave her as many pods as possible.

thanks...

The fairy and flasher wrasses onyour list will not compete for pods, but the whipfin is a bit aggressive.

The mystery will pick at pods, but also are very aggressive toward other wrasses.

well, looks like whipfin and mystery are out.

so, topping the list are...

- red velvet
- orange back
- lubbock's

thoughts on either a male or each or male and a couple females?

thanks!

I would only get males, as females tend to turn male in a tank anyway. Some prefer to get females and let them transition in the tank, but I lack the patience.

I would get the orange back and solerensis first as the rubrisquamis is more aggressive than them. And if you still wanted the whipfin, just get him after the others.

cool! i am ordering a couple from my lfs today :)

do you have any auto feeder that you would recommend?

type of food that you recommend for them?

i could not find anything when i searched for "naoko" does it have another name?

It's scientific name is Cirrhilabrus naokoae, but its common name should have shown up as it goes by Naoko wrasse. It is colorful, and slightly more aggressive than your list of wrasses, but not overly so where it would prevent it from being added to your tank.

Hooded Wrasse (C. bathyphilus) is another suggestion (if you needed another). LA has some in stock now :) I would personally chose this over the Red Velvet (C. rubrisquamis) due to its more mellow behavior.
