My question is how do you guys get your wrasses to stop jumping. I have 2 wrasses in my tank and every so often I would hear a little splash at the top and I think hes jumping or having fun. Just scared to find my buddy's on the floor.
I will try to get pics. As cwoods stated one of my other females if showing sign of sub-male. It's only natural that this will happen. IN the wild if a male dies there always one to take it place.
You don't. You just cover the tank so they can't get out. And as Snorvich has pointed out many times eggcrate doesn't work as many wrasses can still get through.
I have a Lubbocks that was a sub male with a black spot on the caudal peduncle when I got it. It has since developed into what appears to be a supermale without the presence of females. It seems that one indication of supermale status is when the unpaired fins develop a blue margin in addition to a large size and intense coloration. I also had a C. rubripinnis that appeared to be headed toward being a supemale without females being present but it jumped. Could other male fairy wrasses of different species help in causing a male to become a supermale?
Yes flames.....
But i had a pair of lineatus, the male died (males are not as hardy as females initially) and and the female was all that was left (all fairies included) but still turned into one beautiful male! (not quite terminal but close) I believe that the colors enhanced due to the fact that he would constantly flash the cardinals and the C.Potters, thus it is great to get fish that swim the column.
btw......w/ all fairies...........go w/ a group of females.......cheaper.......hardier......and one will eventually turn into a male:dance:
