Wrasses - More Harm than Good?

I had a fourline wrasse in all my previous tanks. It was an interesting and beautiful fish, but a pod eating machine! For better or worse, it ate just about any critter it came across peppermint shrimp size or smaller.

Since, an abundance of micro fauna is generally considered important to a healthy functioning reef tank and wrasses are so efficient at wiping it out, do you think wrasses do more harm than good (other than planktivorous species like flasher and fairy wrasses, of course)?

What are your thoughts?

I'm really debating whether to include a lined wrasse or halichoeres species in my next tank (48"x20"x21" SPS dominant display).

To me it really depends on if I plan on having or have a fish that relies on the micro fauna like those in the dragonet family. If I want one then adding one of these wrasses isn't in my best interest of the tank is smaller in size, but should be no issue in a larger tank.
