wrasses that need sand?

My leopard and tamarin wrasses don't mess it up at all. My clowns do more disturbance.

when they bury themselves in the sand, what do the actually do? do they stay in one spot digging a hole or do they go through the sandbed each night digging a hole and sleeping? how deep do they actually dig?

I have a Yellow Coris. Never makes a mess. Dives in the sand after the lights go out and stays in one spot all night.

my goby makes a HUGE mess- my Xmas wrasse is nice and clean. He hides in the sand but doesn't spread it all around or anything

Wrasse that I had dove in and stayed in one spot. I swear, I could never tell she went in because it would stay so clean. My clown could empty the sand out the tank when she gets going.

sounds tempting! id like to get this wrasse i saw at the store, but my 75 wont have a sand bed, meaning id only have the wrasse for a month :\

They don't really dig a hole- they just dive into it. It creates a puff of sand that quickly settles.

You could keep a container of sand hidden behind your rockwork to keep the wrasse in the 75g... It works for people who want burrowing wrasses, but have BB set ups. Also, what kind of wrasse are you looking at? Some don't even need sand.


SabrinaJean, do you mean Halichoeres chrysus? Those need sand.

well, i had made a list and no one would respond to it. as far as i know, flashers and fairy wrasses dont need sand. the yellow wrasse was going to be for a 28 that only has a pair of clownfish and RG-- didnt know.

this is the last for the 75:

-mystery wrasse (*Pseudocheilinus ocellatus)
-sea grass wrasse (*Novaculichthys macrolepidotus)
-scotts fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus scottorum) OR velvet wrasse (Cirrhilabrus luteovittatus)

its going to have SPS only, so im not sure if some of those are reef safe?

also, live aquaria and blue zoo have different requirements for the yellow wrasse, 30 or 50, but i would assume its 50 gallons since the fish gets to be 5", another reason i didnt want to pick up the fish for the 28-- i think for the 28 the only size wrasse i could add would be the McCosker or the mystery wrasse

The mystery and Scott's are. I don't know about the grass wrasse, but mystery and Scott's are rather aggressive toward other wrasses.

You could also look into a Six Line Wrasse.

I meant Hawaiian CLeaner Wrasse. DO them and sixthline Wrasse need sand? Has anyone else seen these two sleeping in the sand?
