Wrasses, wrasses and wrasses!

Flippers4pups

Home made abyss
I've become obsessed with wrasses over the months building my system. I've seen the beauties that you guys have posted and have been convinced that this build will be wrasse dominant. Other than my clowns and my flame angel I currently have a h.chrysus. Also I want a tang, most likely a bristletooth. So with that, this is my current pick list. Tell me what you think.

H.Claudia -Christmas
C.Aurantidosalis - Orange backed
C.Lineatus - Lineatus
P. Carpenteri - Carpenter's

There are so many to choose from and my list may change.
(Maybe a leopard)

You could do a few leopards...
Orange back fairy
Labouts
Solorensis
Exquisite
Naoko
Whip Fin
Flame
....Wrasses are way cool!!!

Im a wrasse fanatic I have a few wrasses order right now but I will not say which ones muahaha I have been searching for certin ones and wont put anything else in my tank until I get them.

Definitely going wrasse tank this time! Still building my system and with the holidays coming, won't be done till spring. This gives me plenty of time to finalize my list. Can't wait!

I like my acrylic lid I made for my tank.... that way you dont make sushi outta your fish when they jump! lol

As for your wrasse list I would go with the bigger wrasses, ditch the flashers just because of their size they are little guys.

I have no idea of your setup, but usually a glass or acrylic lid reduces oxygen exchange, and must be regularly cleaned on both sides...also most acrylic will warp very quickly

And I would agree, for you the most part. If you use 3/8 thick acrylic it will take some time for it to warp but some time I mean a few years, also I like my evaporation loss to be as little as possible. My sump system however produces plenty of oxygen. The best way to be inject oxygen into water is with micro bubbles and plants (macro algae for saltwater). Now you get a decent dose with that using a protein skimmer but not enough, so what I use a water fall type sump/refug system that splashes over live rock and traps pockets of air so I do not have to worry about oxygen in my display because its getting all it needs in my sump.

Back to the topic I'd rather replace a lid every few years then have to replace 5 gallons of water a day. My lid cost is $45.

I think a mix of sizes would be nice though. I've seen many a tank look so crowded with too many large fish or just too many fish in general.

Agreed but keep in mind wrasses have their territory and will fight other fish sometimes if they are in it for a while so if you are going to go with flashers make sure they are the ones that get around 4-5 inches that way they can hold their own.

Thanks for the heads up. I definitely keep that in mind.

You better post pictures too of what you get I have currently in my new tank solar wrasse, and a melanurus on order I have a Christmas, a male lunar and a royal green pencil wrasse

Not to steal the OP's thunder but if you have a nano a cryptic wrasse is awesome. I've had the same one for four years now with no screen.

I will! As well as my system build. I'm not purchasing any fish, inverts or coral till I get my qt system built. This will be done last in the build. I have a 20gal standard now and thinking of using my 20gal long I'm currently using as my sump as a qt too.
