Wrong Choice?

I only meant that the controller with the unit does a pretty good job, you wouldn't need to change programs during the day unless you just wanted to have that capability.. there are a LOT of people that run pretty impressive tanks without changing the programs throughout the day..

I hate mine. On my way to home depot for some timers. Gonna pick up China made self contained dosers. 1 month old hope i can sell this crap....I can't even get the moon cycle to work and no human being here or from Neptune can help. It's complex mystery of JFK grassy knoll second shooter proportion.

Regardless of which controller one prefers, I cannot believe that you think that multiple timers made in china and a chinese doser is a better solution. It may seem more straightforward to program, but it is far less foolproof. I for one would not trust dosing to light timers and chinese dosers...too much risk... At least with my Apex I can have fall backs and checks (for instance if ph goes to high or low it can disable dosing altogether).

BTW, how are those timers going to keep your chinese heater from making cioppino out of your tank when it sticks on (notice i said "when" not "if")

Slam any controller company you want, but going without one is not an option IMO.

...IF your Temp and PH reading are good which is not always true as this forum shows (including my personal experience) ... Not saying Apex is bad and Chinese timers are good... but you cant denied it has some software/hardware issues they must work out before I will call the system 'safe'... more safe then chinese timers. Right now it is not.

i've not had any issues with my apex to date... actually quite the contrary.. I purchased mine in september of 2009 and it's not messed up ONCE... (I have, however, messed IT up.. but my controller has been flawless)

At first, restraints in cars were putting your arms in front of you. Then the seat belt came along. Many people said "but wait, I heard about this one person that was killed once by having their seatbelt on and they went into a lake and couldn't get out so I'm not wearing one". Then, along came airbags. Many people said, "that seems awfully dangerous, what about that kid that got killed when one went off when it shouldn't have? - I don't want any part of these airbag thingees"

Now we all know that nothing is perfect. We play the odds all the time. We continually try and make our lives better and the odds more in our favor. There is no way that someone will convince me that having a backup on my heater via my controller makes me more fault prone than not having it. There is no way that someone can convince me that 4 independent $10 chinese timers are more reliable than my controller.

The argument that controllers are not perfect yet, so I will stick with none, aligns well to the auto restraint example above...

Your chances go up of being successful with a marine aquarium when you use a controller.

I suggest that whoever thinks otherwise, and have moved back away from using a controller, writing in this forum might not be the best use of your time and you may want to move on.

Hopefully you'll get through these issues.
Once you get the hang of it,its a great controller.I had a RK and it doesn't compare.
Probably my favorite piece of equipment.
Good luck.

With Kenargo's help, I think i may have turned the corner.

Didn't mean for this to turn into a controller bashing thread.
