Wrong color LEDs? Help

I helped my friend build a led light for his tank and he had a bit of algae before but after we added the LEDs he said the algae is going nuts. Could the LEDs be the wrong color? He got the DIY 12 led kit from rapidled 8 whites and 4 blues because he already has 8 1 watt blues on the tank. Its a 37 high. He got the ultra premium kit with the better LEDs but they seem to be growing algae. He said when he tested the water everything that would cause algae is low. Any ideas?

Low or zero? Low means there are nutrients in the water for the algae. I doubt your light is the #1 factor. Sure, it aids in the growth of the algae, any light will, especially something that is high output. I would have him focus on the water quality.

It is not the lights it is poor water quality. The lights will just grow the algae better because there is more energy for it to grow,

Plus 1 to above. Even if the water tests came back as zero, it's likely not the lights. The algae absorbs the nutrients.

I would think it has more to do with the amount of light than the color.

Isn't new LED setup putting out more light than what was there before?

Thanks for all of the help. I will pass the info on. Yes the LEDs are a bit brighter then the light he had before.
