I have to say, watch how the animals react.
I have a pin leather and a couple pieces of corky fingers briarium positioned near the main PH stream and they get whipped by the turbulence. I wish I could film the colony of corky fingers. It's beautiful. they take some whippings heh, but they seem to love it.
edit: had to go look

my green sinularias like the gentle buffeting, but get PO'd when whipped, they mostly are way back around to the beginning end of the tank where the jet stream is gone, and just the gently turbulnet laminar flow is left, or behind rocks.
shrooms=totally PO'd getting whipped around

mine will jump ship if it is too bright or windy and I find them happy as a clam in the dark behind the rocks.
more edit: I have a single monster PH in a 50 aimed to form a gyre. the whole tank is totally in motion and really the tough part is finding calmer areas for the shrooms. Other than that, everybody else likes the water swirling around.
BUT a coral right in the jet stream will get shredded or skinned.
i accidentally skinned a pocillapora. only the polyps were left on the windward damaged sides,

it healed pretty fast, but that was still a number on it.
so I have to leave a clear channel all around for the jet stream. only the snails take it

anything else will get wasted.
so, maybe take advantage of deflecting your streams off of things. I also stir the dust in the sump a little so I can see how the water is blowing around once in a while, especially after moving any rockwork
