My last customization for an oceanic tank fell through. It took too long for them to get a second round of quotes back, and they decided to increase the price by 300%. The tank went from $670 to $2360!! What in the world made them do that?

Anyway, I've given up trying to find a custom built tank. Now I'm trying to see if anyone has a tank for sale with these specs:

36" x 18-20" x 18-20"
No Euro/Center bracing
3 Sides Starphire Glass / 1 side starphire glass
Black Silicon / Black Trim
Corner Overflow
1.5" drain, 1" return (preferably drilled for sched 80 bulkheads)

or if anyone else knows of any other custom glass tank builders in the area, that'd be great. right now all the good glass tank builders are in canada and charging over $700 for shipping, ugh.

Thanks!!

I am actively looking for custom glass tank builder in the bay area too. Hopefully someone could recommend a good one.

I was doing some re-searching and found this guy:

Long Huynh - 510-714-1128

People at the MARS group seem to like his work. I've called him once for a quote for a 120g 3 sided starphire tank.

I can't find the thread, search function is not working for me, at the MARS forum.

Maybe we can do a group custom build to get a discount..

BTW: AquariumObsessed just quoted me $700 to ship an entire blueline package (90 gal), but $750 + another tank alone (no package), or $850 for two packages! That means you get half off on shipping.

Also if we order by Friday he'll take another $100 off the shipping charges. So two packages, plus $400 shipping from Canada. That's not bad.

If you guys want, we should do a group buy =) Maybe 3 packages would be even cheaper!! Let me know.

Checkout their tanks: http://www.aquariumobsessed.com/

(btw they're a sponsor so I think this is ok to link to them)

Kinetic - I don't think he's got an Email. It was hard enough to understand him over the phone.

Phong - at the time I called him, I though his price was high - I thought it was too much. But when I did more shopping around, it was a decent price / fair for all the labor that it take to make the tank. He even offered for me to come down and check out some of his customer's tank / build progress.

Miracles also, I think, gave me a decent price for 120g shipped. AO, when last I called, gave me a high price quote on shipping alone - almost half the price of the tank. Don't hold me on that one. I called so many glass tank builder.

Of course, I was asking for a Euro-brace 3 sided starphire tank - custom build. I couldn't decide between an external overflow or Anthony Calfo style overflow.

I wonder how much it really cost them to ship the tank.

yeah seriously =(

well I might go for a 70 gallon Oceanic "Tech" production tank they have coming out in 3 to 4 weeks. Oceanic now makes a tech line that comes with black silicon, megaflow, and starphire glass. It will cost as much as the 58 gallon, and uses eurobracing.
