WTB: AquaController Jr w/ Serial Port and DC8

well how does 276 out the door sound. I just got mine from reefgeeks and they are the best price for the acjr,dc8 and serial port. Still have not played with the serial port but I love my ac unit. The best thing I ever got othere then my ligths and skimmer.

Yeah, I saw that I didn't have to spend $199 for the base + $178 for a DC8. Had no idea there were package deals. I ordered from ReefGeek ($269 + tax) and it should arrive tomorrow. Too bad Marine Depot doesn't have the units with Serial Ports cause they would've had the best price online for $273, no tax and free shipping.

Next in line is a CA Reactor. If only I didn't have to add a dedicated circuit to my tank area I'd have it already. :(

How does it compare to the New Reefkeeper????

From what I've read, the AC units have more flexibility with the programming in terms of being able to edit the code and also has the ability to monitor your system online with the AquaNotes software. The programming on the AC is easy for me since I do some computer programming. IF/THEN statements is a no brainer for me.

I was going to go with the more expensive controllers with the built in ethernet ports, but I have no need for those since I have a spare old laptop that's on wireless that I can use as a server that can be connected to the AC Jr using the RS232 Port.

I can't wait to see the tank Issac. It better be sps with all the huge investments your making! haha

Ying,

Yeah, i'm going the SPS route or mixed reef with SPS being dominant. I'm also buying all the stuff I've always wanted so I can stop envying other people lol. The money I am using was the money I have or had planned on using for purchasing a Super Charger for my car as well as wheels. That money quickly disappeared lol.

I'm taking my time and purchasing the equipment that I want that would make life easier for me and the wife especially if we leave town for a few days.

I think after my electrical is done, all I would need to purchase is sand and rock to get the tank going, then after that, a CA Reactor.

Oh I'll be having SoCal Creations build me a custom water resevoir for top off too, just waiting to hear back from them.

you should talk to terry (stryker something) here on RC. He had one up for sale. I tried PMing him back but never got a response. He's a good guy and really nice to deal with.

Yeah, I ended up paying $276 or something which was less than what my online order total was. I was pleasantly suprised when I saw the invoice in my package yesterday. :) It was my first time dealing with ReefGeek and will order from them again. I placed my order after 2pm on Monday and got the package yesterday!

The only thing the RK has on the AC is looks.

You can go to the Premium Aquatics forums here and they have a group buy on it now. Actually there is no min order. They will ship out the same day. I connected the controller to my laptop for easier programming. I like how I can program any of the 8 plugs to do what I want like:
If temp >79 then turn fan #1 on
If temp >81 then turn fan#2 on
If temp >83 then turn chiller on
If temp >84 then turn off halides

I turn off my skimmer when I feed my fish but alot of times I forget to turn my skimmer back on but the controller has a feed mode which will turn off your skimmer for a preset time and then turn back on.

DC8 connects direct to the controller vs. wireless X10.

Serial Port is a port that lets you connect the controller to a PC for programming and monitoring.

FYI, ReefGeek still has it cheaper than PA if you want the DC8 with it.

hitekfreak,

It'll be cheaper when your package arrives. They adjust some things in the final invoice that's included in the package. Comes out to be like $276.
