Looking to replace my Fluxal canister filter. too loud.. looking for something more quiet. I heard Eheim Professional 3 works well.

need it quiet and rated for 100+ gallons. thanks!

Eheim Pro 3 is a nice filter, but very pricey. An Eheim 2217 at about $165 will be fine for a 100g tank. I usually dump the Ehfisubstrat and replace it with Siporax these days in my Fw tanks. I have some of these filters that are more than 25 years old - they are beasts.

Eheim is good canister filter, Tony. I have the classic one like forever 17+ years old and still running.

I think Siporax and Substrat Pro make out of sintered glass. I think Eheim substrate pro work well for FW tank and long lasting.

Both are sintered glass, but Siporax appears to have much more surface area. I used Ehfisubstrat pro in my discus tank for nearly 10 years and had a persistent algae problem. I finally switched the filters in that tank to Siporax and within about 4 months the algae problem abated and has remained under control despite the same feeding and weekly 50% water change regimen. I changed over all of my canister filters to Siporax. I like the stuff a lot.

thanks guys! I'm running this on my 300gal turtle tank. It's only filled to about 100gal of water but turtles are dirty! so bigger has been better..

the Fluval FX6 I'm using is so loud it's like a wash machine at night...

I'm going to give the Eheim Pro 4+ 600 Filter a try. hopefully it'll be a major step down in noise. If not, I probably need to drill the wall and plumb the Fluval outdoors.

or may have a FX6 for sale soon.
