WTB: Clam

i think the problem lays on shipping, that's the only possible explaination if berry is honest. it's not the hobbiest fault because everyone does have different parameters so at least some would have made it. and if it's looks good before shipping then it's the shipper.

the clams at the swap looked awsome, and they looked awsome the whole day i was there. i was suprised only a few was gone buy the end of the swap so i thought i take a chance and buy one for my girly. she's been wanting a claim for a while, more so the blue one but this will sufice for now. her b-day is comming up and i wonder how she will take it if i got her another clam but blue.

I was the one awhile ago that did the group buy from clams direct. I would be willing to do it again but the clams go extremeley fast and tough to lock in. I am almost better picking out 10 or so of the best looking clams for around the same price and letting guys pick them out from there. BTW the store is closed right now as he is out of town so we have a few days to put one together if everyone wants. Ben

***** Actually after reading the thread from the MO group buy I say we hold off on a order from there for a bit till things get better.

I bought a derasa at the swap, put it in my tank that day (not where I planned on keeping it) and it stuck its foot down. Now I am aquascaping my tank around a clam that shouldnt be where it is. Go figure.

I'm thinking about ordering a clam and some fish off of Divers Den if anybody wants to jump on.
I'm in the Youngstown area, but could meet people in Akron or southeast side of Cleveland.
There's only a few, and probably need to order quickly.

I couldn't resist, went ahead and ordered clam and fish from DD.
I can add to the order if anyone else wants something - check the shipping facility, if it's from their California location, they charge an extra $15 for shipping. DD comes out of Wisconsin.

Now I'm curious if you see my point or if I'm gonna get blasted

Someone has responded to your post on the vendor experience thread.

Why don't we try to get a groupbuy together with Reef Systems? I am sure he can cut us a price cut if we get enough people together. I don't mind going down there and picking up the stuff, been meaning to check out their store anyways. Just a thought.

Coral Reefs in Akron had a Dursa and another (cant remember) for $40. Were not very colorful under the VHO's but cheap and should color up under the right lights.

Todd, the owner of ReefSystems said anytime the club wants to set up a weekend to visit he would allow us to take a tour of the facility and also give 15-20% off livestock. It is a neat place to visit especially when it's cold outside and you walk into an 80 degree room as big as that.

If there is enough interest we could try to put together a Columbus store trip/caravan for C-SEA members.

The biggest problem with buying clams from anyone that is willing to go with a large buy and discount is that they will not be keeping them long enough for any of the problems to show up and it may end up like that St. Louis buy where it kills your current clams if you don't quarantine for a few weeks.

I can check with him and see if they would be willing to get a shipment and hold them for a few weeks before selling to us but I am sure that if someone wants to buy the prettiest ones before we get there they would be sold to them.

Ive been there and its a great store. He has a bunch of people working that ask if you need help often enough but dont bother you at all. Great clam selection, quite a few different zoas (dont know about rare or le stuff but things we dont all have in our tanks from local trading), a bunch of sps frags, etc. Make sure you know the hours before you go down, I think they are fri-sun only.

as long as we can bring beer on the bus im in :) but really if anyone is interested this kid in lyndhurst had 3 or 4 last time i was at his place and they were all beautiful i dont know what he wants for them but hes local and has an awesome frag setup 500+ gallons.
heres the craigslist posting

http://cleveland.craigslist.org/for/1079923055.html

its worth the look he had some really rare stuff, he had a cap in his display thats puple red the size of a basketball with 2 rays i was astonished

the lyndhurst kid wanted 80 for the smalle blue clam, bout 3-4" he does have alot of corals tho. no electric bill so he's able to do so. i was looking for an apt that would cover electric so i could have lights but didn't find anything

I love flied trips, and would be willing to go even if i were only spending $20 bucks. i'm in if it ever transpires...

+2 on the beer bus....lol

I don't think the club is in a position to rent a party bus or anything so it would have to be carpooling and a caravan of vehicles down there so drinking would probably have to happen before, after or at one of the stops :)

I will contact Reef Systems and Phishy Business about doing this and update everyone when info is available.

Sounds good......

Someone once told me that Todd examines each clam very closely for any problems, before they are ready for sale. There's always some livestock that is "not ready for sale" because of quarantine.
He's pretty meticulous when it comes to selling healthy livestock
