WTB: Foxface Rabbitfish

I'd like one to help keep algae growth in check, preferably 2-4" in size.

Just an observation of my foxface I have had for 4 years. Not once have i seen his keep any of my algae in check. Don't really know what else they are supposed to be good for but i love him all the same. Just good bright coloring.

SITC has them every once in a while. mine keeps my bubble algae in check.

mine doesn't eat algae, just zoos! haha, but i love him no matter what, but really no good if you need algae control, get a tang instead

Keeping your water parameters in check (and regular water changes), having good flow and not overfeeding should help with the algae problem unless it is a particular strain of an invasive species.

Foxfaces (the foxface lo rabbitfish) generally are reef safe but there are many in the rabbit fish family that are grazers and can potentially nip and even develop a taste for your corals. It really is on a fish by fish basis.

Depending on the algae if a fox doesnt end up munching on it for you check out some Trochus grazer snails- they are a tad smaller than the large turbos that knock things over and will mow through darn near anything.

I finally recently found a nudibranch that will eat Bryopsis and I am so happy- though I think my bad breakout was in part due to my bulbs being old, the new ones have also helped to keep it from coming back where the slugs have eaten it away.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll try those snails instead (I definitely don't want to risk the Foxface munching on my corals).

I believe my lights are coming up on their 1 year old anniversary so that may be something I need to look into soon.

Looking around the internet, it looks like Trochus snails look very similar to Astreas. I've got Astreas in right now and they do a decent job, but I'd be interested in Trochus. Do you know where Trochus can be found around Central Florida?

Mine hasn't eaten algae of rocks to any noticeable degree in the 6 months I've had him...
