Not right now unfortunatly but in about 2 weeks I want to look into getting something for my false clowns to host in. Something cheap and easy to care for would be ideal. So if anyone notices their bta splitting or have an lta or anything that clowns are known to host in keep me in mind and shoot me a pm. Thanks

i have a small Green bubble tip that i would be willing to part with if that would intrest you. Ray would have much bigger ones if that is what you want.

Let me know.

well I wasn't looking for anything in particular and the clowns are rather small at the moment. Typical size of small ones from the lfs.

Good luck. I got an enenamie for my clown, it hid somewhere and died :( My clown now hosts in a pile of mushrooms in the corner of my tank...she loves them! She'll swim under one and hide. And she keeps other fish away, like she's protecting a pile of gold.

I'm so proud.. I just have to show mine off and hijack this thread for a minute.

Since the moment I started saltwater.. I wanted a clown and an anemone. I failed a couple times and thought for sure I was going to fail with this last attempt. I had one clown in a Nano, I put the anemone in there and instantly it found a happy spot. Nemo wouldn't go near it. So.... I did what I had to do... I fed the anemone like crazy and it grew like mad until it took up the whole darn tank and Nemo had to start hosting it in because he was out of room to swim in. Now I think I would actually see tears running down little Nemo's face if I took away his anemone. My new tank makes me so happy when I look at it and watch Nemo playing in his anemone. This anemone is about 15 months old and it started out about 1-2" across the mouth from tip to tip and now it's up to about 14" from tip to tip but could easily stretch bigger than that if it wanted to. They can take up a lot of tank, but I just love them together. From my experience though, I tried 3 different RBTAs, and they weren't successful. This was my first LTA and it worked. I love the way RBTAs look, but you can't have everything. Sorry for the hijack.

lol I wish I had something big enough for them to even try to host in. a rbta or some such would be ideal or even a gbta but lta are cheap as far as I know and have good chances and I have plenty of room for one if I can just find one. Pets inc told me they arn't going to get anymore for a while due to some pump accidents. Ah well I'll find something. I was looking at decent frogspawn and whatnot but those things get pricey. If I can't spend that much on a fish I can't justify myself to spend it on a coral that doesn't swim around and look cute...

Host Anemone

Host Anemone

Ocellaris clowns TYPICALLY use gigantea species carpet, and crispa/ "sebae" anemones.
They are not as prone to use bubble/ bulb anemones, long tentacle anemones, etc.
Obviously they will under certain conditions use alternative hosts (euphyllia sp. corals, mushrooms, zoanthid polyps, bubble corals, etc.) and these alternative anemones.
I've even seen them use condylactis anemones out of the florida keys/ Caribbean.
My point being, be careful. Don't assume a certain species of clownfish will accept any host. Most clownfish are very specific to what type of anemones they accept.
Good luck!

I have a false perc that for a while really liked hosting in some xenia. I bought a Green BTA and now it hosts there which let me mow down much the xenia that was getting a little out of control. You're welcome to some xenia if you want to give that a try.

lol, hey, i'd be proud of that too...tho i'd be more proud if it was a 66 or so instead of the new ones :)

But anyways, so far i've got my clowns to host a powerhead and a hole in a rock..they pretty much ignore the xenias, gsp, and other stuff in the tank...so i'd also be interested to see what all people have had luck with (as far as anemone types).

I had a false percula host my flowerpot once. After asking around I guess it was bad for the flowerpot. So I got rid of the flowerpot. I also learned that the flowerpots have a short life span.

lol dudeguy saw my 65 poppy red mustang recently. ;) I have a decent zenia in my tank it has one main stem and two branches but they don't go near it. or my rocks for that matter. They actually sleep together on the sand bed against the front glass.... which worried me the first night.

lol i did indeed see it, and if you liked my dads old beat up Olds Achieva, then i'm sure he wouldnt mind the trade ;) lol jk.

But ya both my clown pairs have done that where they lay on the sand, except for they do it in the back and not the front.
