WTB: KalkReactor

I've been looking at different options for a Kalkreactor. At first I was looking at the Avast Marine Kalk Stirrer, but now I'm looking at the Precision Marine KR620 which mixes the Kalk with a replaceable Cobalt Pump. I'm leaning away from the Avast Marine as I'm not a big fan of the gravity feed aspect. Does anyone have any recommendations or other suggestions?

Buy the stir reactor instead of pump. Kalk is very corroded to plastic so the pump needed to be clean more ofter. The stirrer is less maintenance. I dont use ato to dose kalk because too much variable. I hook up a parelastic pump and program it to feed rodi to the kalk reactor every hour. I balance my cal reactor n the kalk reactor to get the right dkh however i use more kalk to get higher ph n less co2 from the cal reactor

Thanks Anthony. Which stirrer do you use?

The avast k1 the output is 1/2” so it will never clog some other models use 1/4” line n the kalk solution clog up faster. The avast reactor lid is not screw in so its simple to add kalk. There is a probe holder for u to monitor when to add kalk normally the kalk ph is 12 so if it drop down to 9 then time for u to add more kalk to the reactor.

Not sure why you are steering away from the Avast. It's a very effective design, and I don't have to worry about a pump kicking on.

The output tube just needs to be above the waterline of the sump. So the reactor can be beside the sump

My sump is also fully enclosed with only 1/4” hose bulkheads plumbed. I could make the 1/2” line work but it wouldn’t be ideal.

I just drip it back to my filter sock area. The output u can reduce to 1/4" if u want but like i say it might clog up faster

I worry that reducing a gravity feed line to 1/4" would cause it to clog and force the kalkwater to overflow out of the top of the unit itself.

Its depend on the speed of your input pump the small pump i use pump very little so the output is small n slow. I program to turn on every 30 min for 4 min.

My K1 stirrer did clog when I first got it and leaked kalk everywhere on the floor. Had to cut the output tube to prevent it from stirring up the kalk too much when the ato kicks on haven't had the issue since though. Absolutely love my K1 other than this first incident

How are you feeding the reactor? Ato or via a doser pump?

I just got the avast k1 as well and the gravity feed is its best selling point imho. Kalk is messy lol and I liked that it wasn't a sealed reactor that you would have to take apart to add kalk and clean the k1 is really simple and in this hobby simple = better in many cases. Mine is sitting right next to my sump with 1/2" lockline coming out of it and curved down into the sunp

the k1 is rated up to 400g it's up to you which deal you can find I saw a post for sale last week for a k2. Since I run both kalk and cal reactor I chose the k1 plus the spot on top of my ATO reservoir fit the k1. My total volume is approximately 400g.
