I'm looking for a used magnum 350 canister filter to be converted into a fuge. Has to be the magnum, since as far as I am aware that is the only clear canister filter. Have a couple corals I could trade too. Thanks!

DragonFish,

let me know how that works out. I bought a 350 just to use as a pump for my chiller, and as a bonus some added filtration, media chamber and water polishing. I choose the 350 because I was thinking about putting some live rock rubble in the media chamber and instead of the blue pre filter just stuff some cheato and light it up.

And yep I looked around, this is the only one with a clear canister.

were your plans similar?

vquest, that was my exact plan. Chicagoreefman, the thing that makes the magnum viable is that the sides are completely clear, so you light it from the side, not the top. I'll start a thread when I get one so you can check it out. Oh and if anyone wants to donate a small bit of chaeto I'd appreciate it too!

We have used the Magnum in the past and was very disappointed in its performance. They are problematic, debris ends up in the socket where the impeller sits and grinds away at the housing/ impeller. When the impeller gets scored enough, the magnet comes in contact with the saltwater. It will rust and swell causing the problem to worsen rapidly as well as leaching minerals from the magnet into your tank. The replacement impellers are expensive and you can't repair the scoring on the housing without replacing it. Provided that you have the space, I would recommend getting a small (5-10 gal.) tank and a small pump. This will be cheaper and give you better long term results in my opinion. HTH

BTW, I have some extra chaeto if you need some. I will be at Oceans Floor tomorrow for the frag swap, let me know and I can bring some for you.

I'd really like to do it that way, but my tank isn't drilled and I don't have space left for a HOB overflow.

haha sounds like a risky idea that might not be that beneficial. Well i might try to put a 5 gallon next to my 25g sump. My sump is glass though so how would i do that. I know it is possible to drill glass with a special drill bit but is there a better way to add a sump. BTW i do not have room for a hang on wish i did. I guess i setup my tank like a newbie.
