Woah , those look way too huge for my setup.
Are both of those in-sump models? or can they be hob?

Could be much, much worse... At least you are being smart and getting everything you need together before even thinking about filling your tank. That will = a whole lot less headaches down the road.

Oh I guarentee , I'll still make plenty of mistakes.

Well I figured out how a overflow works.
Problem is I didn't forsee my tank needing another 2-3 gallons for the overflow to flow properly.
So........... The sump partialy emptied and left the skimmer pump high and dry.
I figure the pump is now DOA , which makes me sad.
Anyone have a skimmer pump for sale? Can I put ANY pump on this coralife super skimmer? Do I need to try and match up the power?

kow long did it run dry? somtimes they just over heat and will run fine when they cool off

I sounds lie you need the baffle in the secion of the sump a little higher, or the one on that side is not sealed good.
If it is set up correctly your skimmer pump section should not run dry it would just keep skimming the same water, the level in that section should be the last that would run dry at least that is how mine is set up and how I have seen most do it.
Clean the pump real well and maybe it will restart for you.

I got the pump to restart last night , I got all excited and started working with it , I went around to unplug it and while I was walking around , the pump tipped over and touched the bottom of the tank , knocking off the impeller blades.
I guess that would be my first two "learning experiences" .
I plan to buy a Octopus replacement pump , it should work much better than the original. Since I beleive the skimmer's orginal pump is a Rio 1700.
Bill , I didn't know how much water it would take to get the overflow properly flowing , it had to build up water in 2 areas before it starts to flow , this uncalculated loss of water was the source of my demise. The baffle you gave me , would have saved it , if I hadn't put it ontop of the egg crate.
Oh well , live and learn.

make sure the new octo pump is rated at the same gph as the current rio pump you have a little more is ok but dont over kill it the skimmer body can only handle so much
