I spent a lot of time researching refractometers last summer and ended up with that one from Dr. Foster and smith. Works pretty well, though some people say they wish it's scale was a bit different.(I think they are too picky)
Ebay is a good way to go about it if your familiar with the online auction world. Last summer the director of our lab purchased two brand new refractometers from ebay.
Come to think of it, it is really time for me to check mine with a standard....
