WTB: Very Large Tank

So we are in the process of remodeling and I've finally convinced my parents to put in a big in-wall tank. Construction will begin next month and so I'm kinda in a hurry to find a tank so that the contractor and work around the dimensions i give him. Space really isn't an issue b/c i have more than 10 feet in length to work with. I was going to order a tank from So Cal Creations, but I thought I might see if anyone had a complete set up or a tank w/ plumbing established. I live in Santa Barbara and am not too familiar w/ plumbing, and I don't trust the fish stores around here, so I'd rather purchase a tank w/ the plumbing and pumps already set up.

I think the tank will be a FOWLR, and I've been doing a bit of research, so the set up shouldn't be too bad. I was thinking of a tank anywhere from 300-600G. If anyone has anything for sale, please let me know. Thanks! :)
 
I don't really have a budget. I've been preparing my parents by letting them know that a fully stocked 700-800G reef tank would cost around 50k. I'm sure I overshot this estimate, but I wanted to prepare them just in case. Our initial plans were to do a 750, but I think that would be too much for me to handle. I also contemplated that 2000G tank for sale in Texas (it was posted on RC in the used equipment section). I had premature plans of flying out to Texas and driving it back, but those plans only lasted a few days, hehe. I thought better of it b/c I would have no clue how to maintain something like that.

Money isn't the issue; it's me doing it right and not making a huge mess. I'm still not sure whether it will be a FOWLR or a reef tank. I'm sure I will convert to a reef tank after the tank has been established for several months. The big issues I have now are time and mapping out the tank. I've contacted a few ppl but nothing is set in stone. Any help would be greatly appreciated :).

Also, does anyone know a contact info for someone that builds metal stands and light racks?
 
If money is not the issue then I would contact socal creations and have them custom build your tank, stand, canopy and sump. They are top notch!
 
lol well he did say that he could spend up to 50K and no one will spend that money better than them lol
 
50k, I wouldn't look for a used tank. And how do you break down that 50k, 5k for tank , 10k for light and sump, etc. Just want to know,lol
 
buy a new tank, they are the cheapest part of the equation.... Watch the starfire glass, I scratched mine with a kent algae scraper ( steel blade )...

Kent denied it... but the starphire is soft...
 
i just threw a number out there, really off the top of my head. I assumed that for a 750-800G fully stocked reef tank, it'd run that much. Just the skimmer alone i thought would run 7-8k. I'm thinking of doing FOWLR now though b/c i will be headed off to dental school next fall (at least that's the plan, hehe). I think I'll just go for a new tank. Any other recommendations in socal besides socal creations?
 
Lee Mar makes nice glass tanks. If you are building it in wall, you could do fiberglass walls with glass or acrylic viewing pannels. There is an awesome thread in the Large Tank forum....Marcs 900g reef tank..the guy is from BC. His wood/fiberglass tank is awesome.

yeah, i've been reading up on the threads in the large reef tank section. There is one tank that is really awesome and is something i would like to follow. I will post the link tonight It's insane!!!
 
i know that thread... but do you realize the work that it takes to make a 300+ gallon reef? FOWLR is one thing but a reef that big in another...
