WTT: Hydra 52 for 360WE

I'm wanting to give Kessil a go so looking to trade my Hydra 52 for one 360WE. I have a Director as well and would love to swap for the Kessil Spectral Controller if that's a possibility too. Let me know if anyone is interested, Thanks.

Your not going to get the same coverage with a single 360we. I use them on my 90g and I think one 52 will cover it but it takes duel kessils

You're probably right about equivalent coverage for your 90 but my tank is a 60 cube which I understand one 360 should cover.

I've got 1 360WE over my 60 cube and am looking to add a second one. I don't feel like 1 gives me enough coverage for my SPS.

Do you mind if I pick your brain a bit since you've got a similar setup? Where is the placement of your SPS in relation to the beam? Meaning, do you have SPS towards the edges or in the center of your tank? What peak intensity is your fixture running at during your photo period and for how long? How high above the water line is your fixture?

Thanks for your input, maybe I just keep what I've got...

No problem, so my light is centered over the tank about 8 inches off the top. Most of my SPS are about 10 inches under the water. I get decent PE, and i do have some new growth, color is decent, I feel like I've lost a little color. As far as my settings, the lights come on around 10:30 and ramp up to 90% intensity and 50% color by 1pm then the color drops to 40% by 7pm then ramps down to off around 11. my intensity holds till around 6 then slowly ramps down and goes off at 11. I love the light and the shimmer, but i don't feel like I will be able to put SPS any lower in the tank or further out on the edge of my rock work without having a second one. I would also like to get a clam or two but i'm not sure they would survive on the sand bed with only the one light. I thought about getting two of the 360N's instead of the WE because I've heard they will light up the deeper tanks better. I've also looked at going with the AI 52HD or the AP700, but both of those have some bugs to work out first, so I figure I'm just going to add a second 360WE for now and see how things go. I have a few frags that I can move around in the tank and place closer to the sand and see how they do to judge how much light is going to the bottom of the tank.
Hope this helps you a little, or it may just fuel more questions and ideas.

Wow, kind of shocked to hear you run as high as 90% but just illustrates your point about not being enough light. Very helpful, thanks.

Your welcome, I guess I maybe should state that it's only at 90% for 2hrs. The rest is ramp time, I'd say 80% of the time it's at 80%. I have not had any issues with burnt ends from these settings. I do keep my color under 50% for 90% of the time just because I've read and talked with people using these lights and they have all stated that the corals do better with the blue spectrum vs the white, so I have the white peak for about 2 hours then drop back into the blue spectrum. From what I've read and a few people I've talked to, I think once the bugs get worked out of the AP700, that will be the light! But until then, I'm going to play with the 360WE and see what I can get to work out just because I do love the looks, and I can't say I've had any ill effects from them either. It may just be that I'm old school trying to jump into the new world. My last tank 5 yrs ago had 2 400W Radiums over it, so to go total LED is a trial and error process for me, but I'm enjoying it. Just going to take me some time to figure out what makes me and my corals happy.

I agree I really like that light as well. I hope on my next build to use two of those with some T5's...a girl can dream right...

I'm really drawn to the look of the Kessil. I'm fooling myself to think I'll ever have an SPS dominated tank but I'm hoping that the 360 will at least let me keep what I have. I feel like my scape is also conducive to maintaining some SPS in the top center of my tank. My 52 is definitely enough to COOK some SPS i'm just hoping the 360 will at least let some SIMMER. I see just as many folks online that RAVE about how their SPS grow in their 60 cube with one of these so WHO KNOWS what my experience will be, but it seems as though this hobby is a lot about gathering knowledge and experience for the NEXT build :uhoh3:
