X-10 Dimmable LED moonlight!

Playfair --

Nice job! I have a AquaController also and am in the process of configuring my new custom 55G. I asked the guys at Neptune Sys if they could recommend an LED dimmable X-10 device or power supply, and they were stumped... then came across this thread.

I was also wondering if you'd be interested in making a similar one for me that I can pay you for. I already have the LEDs and can wire more / less as needed. Just your 'power supply' is all I need.

Let me know if you have time and would be interested.

I was thinking of mounting them inside my aquaspace light, it's 6ft, so I could mount a bank of LED's inside with each MH compartment...but I'm not sure if they would take the heat of 250w HQI?

Also is it possible to run 3 banks of 5 instead of 2? Or maybe mount one in with each CF (the light has 2 built into it) But I assume that gets pretty hot too. Mount outside?

Playfair have you tried that? do you know what the components should change to?

Playfair ....

I was looking at Allelectronics.com, I was only able to find ultra-bright blue leds 5.0w and 20mA for $1.75 .... are these the led's you used? I found resistors but I am still looking to find the rectifier. Any ideas? How many of these LED's should I put on my 120 reef?

How would this led setup compare to having rope lights run on the inside of hood? Rope lights are dimmable. But lately it doesnt seem my come on like they should. only randomly. I use an AC2 with it.

Just to let you guys know there is another option...
I also made my own moonlights useing a diy moonlight diagram
I found @ kaotica.com. Its Very simple and you just plug in a dimmer from hd and you are set. I use it and it works great.
My leds are 4500mcd and 470nm looks very nice LOTS of shimmer!

I have some extra leds and resistors if any one is interested
I can solder up the strings of leds w/dimmer and power supply for a reasonable price, say a 4 led strip for 80 bucks? I can leave them as a string or mount in flourecent tube sized housing w/shield and 3 holes per led in a line to provide a little more adjustability when you point your leds. PM me of your interested.
I will also try to make a simple schematic for anyone who wants to do it themselves and post it with part#s and all :D

I too am looking for the original "power supply" diagram. I know how to connect a bridge rectifier to the AC line and to the DC load (the LEDs in series), but where in the circuit are the 2 resistors?

Is one of them in series with the LEDs and the other across the AC or DC side of the bridge to create a load, or what?

Thanks!

Switched service providers a while back, so here's the original pics, including the "schematic" of the LED's and X-10 dimmable "powersupply":

Playfair,
How long have you been running this set up? Have you had any issues with this set up? I have a 56" L X 36" W X 24" D tank, how many LED's would you use if I spaced them in my 46" L light hood? Could you also tell me what part no/ spec parts I will need?
Thank you for making it feasable to dim my LED's with my X10/Neptune.
Thanks,
Lee

I just made this setup and it works.. well it dims anyway,

Only 5 of the 10 LED's i wired up glow, any ideas?
