i recently purchased a xmas tree rock the feathers look good the porites are turning whitish like there bleaching, the temp is 79, nitrates 0, nitrites 0, ph 8.1-8.2, salinity measured with refractometer is 1.025, ammonia 0, calcium 450, copper tests 0 phoshates 0, good flow over rock, not blasting, not stagnant, fuge looks good, just added 250MH's but the color started changing a day before i added new lights...where should i place them, in high intense light or no? any suggestions on this

If i'm right.. I believe x-mas tree rocks are similar to feather dusters and really don't require any light? If that is the case I'd put them in low intensity light.

your right, but they feather dusters grow inside porites its the porites that are turning white not the feather dusters

I hear that the porites don't do well in aquariums for some reason. I know next to nothing about these creatures so I will ask you, are they really necessary (the porites) to the growth of the worms?

no, but for addition of sps corals, i think it looks very appealing, rather then die and grow algea on the rock....i read they dont do well either but usually porites need lots of light and flow, which i have almost 900watts on a 75gallon tank so lighting shouldnt be a problem

my flow is 2000 steadyturn over gph with 4 powerheads equaling another 1000gph flow, so flow shouldnt be the problem either...maybe its just those rocks..they just dont do well in captivity

where do you have it in relation to the light? Did you acclimate it to your light? It might just be too much light too fast.
