Xenia dying off one stalk at a time.

Ok, i had several stalks of xenia that was on top of a live rock and seemed to be doing good, suddenly a couple days ago i noticed one dying, then another and another day after day. I have a few left on the rock but i also have xenia at a different spot in the tank that seems to be doing just fine and splitting. I turned my lights on today and another stalk on the rock doesnt look too well. What could be the problem that just the xenia on this rock is dying off? also i notice all kind of little white bug looking things on the rock when i turn on the lights that are scurrying around, could they be killing them? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

they need high light and prefer very good flow.

You might want to share your conditions...flow, light, water params..etc...

55 gallon tank. For flow i have a maxijet 900 and a maxi jet 600 on opposite sides of the tank. For light i have the 48 inch aquaticlife t5 ho fixture with the 2 metal halides (150 watts each) and 2 actinics (54 watts each) and 4 led moonlights. water params were checked two nights ago and everything is as it should be i dont have a way to test calcium, phosphate, alk, and magnesium yet though...

Xenia are strange in that some people can keep them, and some can not, and it's not really known why.

I have had Xenia flourish and multiply for nearly a year, then all of a sudden, melt. All other corals show no sign of stress. I tried another frag after that and it too melted.

Yeah, same thing is happening with me at the moment. Put a few stocks in. one is completely melted the other two are on the decline

Had a frag of pulsing xeina quadruple in size in a few weeks then one day it just started shriveling up and dying

Same thing here. But Do not throw out the rock or plug that they were on. They will grow back. I melted mine down to absolutely nothing and they have come back, melted again, and are now on their third trial growing back
